Rays agree to 1-year, $13 million dollar deal with Nick Martinez

  1. 35 year old Martinez joins after 40 games (26 starts) for the Reds in 2025. Martinez went 11-14 with a 4.45 ERA and 116 strikeouts in a career-high 165 2/3 innings.

Doesn’t seem to sensical considering where the team is this year. 3.67 ERA since returning to the majors from Japan, not terrible, but irrational to spend $13M this close to Spring.

Mirrors the Kim signing to me, waste of money just to save face and raise spending numbers.

  2. Had his worst season since returning to MLB. Not expecting much from him other than to eat innings looking at his advanced stats.

  3. Well – If he appears in more than 24 games this season, than it’ll be a better use of $13mil than HS Kim was last season🙈…

  4. So we won’t pay for Lowe or Randy but we will pay $13 million for this dude??

Are the Rays tanking on purpose? The fuck is this move?

  5. It’s fine. He is versatile in terms of being able to eat innings, and he can fit on a playoff team in a number of different ways.

They will pay him $7M to the trade deadline and flip him to a playoff contender for a prospect worth the $7M they paid out.

  6. Man this one really doesn’t add up but honestly the past few years it just seems like the front office has a new olan every 60 days or so. This team feels like an expansion/minor league operation.

  7. And another signing of uncertainty. I even questioned in that ballpark survey they sent asking how to get me to more games… By doing the opposite of this
