He’s under contract on a fifth round deal and is the only other quarterback on the roster. Anything can happen, but I’d be surprised if he’s not on the team next year. Maybe we get a crazy trade offer, but that’s the only scenario I think he’d be elsewhere in 2026.
The Saints have two QBs on rookie deals which is helpful from a financial perspective. He is in a good mentor spot for a young QB right now. Personally, I think he stays another year in New Orleans but for the right price he can be pried away from the team. People do not realize how bleak the landscape is in the NFL at the QB position and I think we will get more for him than some of our own fans think he is worth … because that is what it will take to move on from a competent backup on the deal we have him for.
He’s a great back up if Shough goes down. I hope we can hang on to him past this year.
I say bring in a vet as well
A back up quarterback in the nfl is a pretty damn good gig
They offer no explanation for their opinion as to why they think it’s hard to see Rattler suiting up for the saints next year, the writer’s opinion can be dismissed with the same level of effort they provided to support their argument that is to say disregard entirely. I doubt the saints spend a draft pick on a replacement for him and I doubt there is any really interest from other teams to trade for him that would be worth it for the saints to move on from him
Unless a team is trading a 4th I don’t see him going anywhere.
What a shit ass article.
Rattler has DEF shown he can start. No way Saints give him up for anything less than a 4th tbh.
I could only see Cardinals as the only team that might try to trade for him
It needs to be noted this is an opinion piece on black quarterbacks in the NFL and how the off-season looks for them.
This is not a source connected to the team at all.
Yeah, I don’t see why we would keep him honestly. We could definitely have a worse backup than him, but that’s the problem. He doesn’t believe he’s a backup. He still views himself as a starter (Lol), so he’s just gonna walk when his contract expires in a couple years anyways, and we need as much draft capital as possible, so might as well get pick for him, then sign Bridgewater as a backup.
The only logical reason to trade him would be if the team gets at least a 5th rounder in return, and they bring in a certified backup QB so that in the event Shough has a tough stretch, the Rattler fanbase isn’t creating noise to bench Shough.
I don’t understand what criteria a lot of you are using to label Rattler as a “good backup”. Is it because he knows the system or that he doesn’t make a ton of mistakes? Is it because he’s on a rookie deal?
Because we have nearly a full season of tape with him and he flat out does not elevate any particular aspect of this team. I never felt like Jameis should’ve been the starter, but you knew that he was capable of being a really good QB for streaks at a time.
Rattler is an adequate back up and he already knows the playbook.
He needs to stay. Of the games he started he really only had 1 bad game. Except for that one game and the Seattle game where special teams blew it early, they Saints were in contention.
I mean he probably won’t be the planned starter at the beginning of the year for us. Having a capable backup and the starter on a rookie deal = good for the cap
Honestly, unless we get a 3rd or 4th for him he probably has more value to stay on the team
I’m not a fan of Rattler but I don’t think they should trade him unless someone offers a day 2 pick
I wouldn’t be surprised if we drafted a qb in the 6th or 7th just in case someone offers us something preseason for rattler
I don’t see why it makes sense to get rid of Rattler. He’s a good backup and is familiar with the teams scheme. You’re not going to get someone better than him. And backups are important. QBs get hurt all the time.
