Emmanuel Clase’s latest developments, which, courtesy of some reporting from David Purdum at ESPN, and Jeff Passan also involved in this.

Which is very funny, because he’s also reporting on Josh Hetchko.

Anyway, last we heard from Emmanuel Clase, slash whatever was going on with the Emmanuel Clase, Luis Ortiz, these guys were betting on their own pitches in Major League Baseball games.

November, we had a, indictment unsealed, where we got the details about kind of what they were- prosecutors were alleging.

And that initial indictment listed, nine games in which Emmanuel Clase was throwing rigged pitches, and then, I believe, two games in which his teammate, Luis Ortiz, on the Guardians, you know, was throwing suspicious pitches that were then connected to bets that made nearly five hundred thousand dollars from certain gamblers.

The update to this story, which is bad, is that apparently it was a whole lot more than nine games, as there has been additional information and allegations made that Clase has been accused of throwing suspicious pitches in at least forty-eight games, which is a whole lot more than nine, and most importantly- Yeah … a whole lot more than zero, which is the number that it should be.

First of all, the more that this grows, the more it is just, like, amazing, if all of this is true, that Emmanuel Clase was tanking his own performance, and one of the three best relievers in the sport for however long. | https://sports.yahoo.com/video/how-the-emmanuel-clase-gambling-case-just-took-a-turn-for-the-worse-184347715.html

  1. Cannot think of too many more depressing sports stories in recent years than Emmanuel Clase. Especially during that 2024 regular season, the guy was money (no pun intended).

  2. Hey Cleveland sports show can you do guardians fans a favor if you're going to talk about the team which you hardly ever do let's talk about the team and what's going to happen next year

  3. Highly unlikely he was deliberately throwing HR balls, or giving up deliberate hits. The payoff might not materialize.

#1, Even if you throw a Matzah Ball down the heart of the plate, there's no guarantee the hitter will hit it out.

#2, There's no guarantee he'll even hit it fair; could foul it off

#3, There's no guarantee the hitter will even swing at it.

#4, The ONLY sure payoff (which is what the gamblers are looking for) is to do what he did: bounce the first pitch in there … a guaranteed no swing first ball, 1-0 count.

You gotta think like a gambler.

  4. I'm with Jay. Its already so upsetting and disappointing but if Clase did this shit in the playoffs i'll be livid. He had everything going for him.

  5. I would really like for the Guardians to be allowed to evict him from their payroll. Perhaps if the league cut them a break on this, they could still find a veteran righthanded outfield bat, which is something they desperately need.

  6. How has Jay existed in the world for so many decades without anyone ever telling him, “you shouldn’t interrupt every person around you after they’ve spoken for a maximum of 4 seconds”?
