Good morning, today is Tuesday February 10th! The first game of Mets spring training is Saturday, February 21st at 1:10 against the Marlins. Opening day is Thursday, March 26th against the Pirates at Citi Field.

Omar Narvaez turns 34 today! The light hitting catcher played for the 2024 Mets and played four games for the 2025 White Sox. He is still a free agent.

His teammate Jorge Lopez turns 34 today! After the Mets released him in 2024 he pitched for the Cubs, with a 2.03 ERA in 26.2 innings. In 2025, Lopez had a 6.57 ERA in 24.2 innings for the Washington Nationals. The Nationals released him on June 2, 2025 and he remains a free agent.

Travis d'Arnaud turns 37 today! A member of the Mets for seven years from 2013 to 2019, he was part of the famous R.A. Dickey trade with Toronto in 2012. He was part of the deal with Wuilmer Becerra, John Buck and Noah Syndergaard to the Mets for R.A. Dickey, non-elite prospect Mike Nickeas and catcher Josh Thole. After the Mets stupidly rage cut him in 2019, he later played for the Dodgers, Rays and played five years with the Braves. He is currently a member of the Los Angeles Angels where he had a 65 OPS+ in 2025.

Phillies player Lenny Dykstra turns 63 today! I have nothing else to add.

Bobby Jones turns 56 today! The Mets drafted the right-handed starter in the first round 36th overall in the 1991 draft. Robert Joseph Jones pitched for the Mets from 1993 to 2000 with an all-star appearance in 1997. Bobby Jones the starter is not to be confused with the lefty reliever Bobby Jones born in Orange, New Jersey; they were both teammates on the Mets in 2000.

Alberto Castillo turns 56 today. A catcher from the Dominican Republic, Castillo debuted with the Mets in 1995 and played in the majors from 1995 to 2007. His most memorable moment with the Mets was hitting a game winning RBI single with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 14th inning on opening day 1998 at Shea Stadium.

Sherman Jones was born on this date in 1935. Sherman "Roadblock" Jones was an army veteran who was a righty pitcher. He pitched in game five of the 1961 World Series for the Cincinnati Reds against the Yankees. He went from the penthouse to the outhouse when the Mets picked him as the 34th pick in the 1961 expansion draft. Jones was 0-4 with a 7.71 ERA in 23.1 innings pitched for the Mets. He never appeared in the majors after 1962, spending the final three seasons in AAA until 1965. He later served in the Kansas City (Kansas) Police Department for 22 years and was later elected to the Kansas House of Representatives and Senate. He passed away on February 21, 2007.

Feel free to discuss whatever you want in this thread.

  1. I’ll never forget that one hitter Bobby Jones threw in the NLDS against the Giants. If Ventura’s glove was an inch longer.

  2. The RA Dickey trade seemed like such a gutsy trade back then. Even if it stemmed from a place of cheapness and poor ownership (Wilpons). Trading a pitcher after he had a lightning in a jar cy young season seemed crazy but kind of genius.

But of course Mets miffed it, cutting TdA and then not trading Thor when he had significant trade value before falling off.

There are so many Wilpon moves that make me wonder where the Mets would be now if we had different owners for the last 5-10 years before Cohen bought the Mets
