So… the Cardinals just traded Andre Granillo in one of the strangest trades of the off-season
The Cardinals made a trade on Tuesday, sending Andre Granillo to the Nationals — and the player they got in return is now on his FIFTH team of the winter! What gives?

Love it. JO JO can go next for some cases of baseballs.
This has to be a good will trade. We will see later.
Def Take 95
I would be so discouraged getting dropped and moved to a new team in rapid succession like that
Yep. Not understanding this trade. At All. Not like he’s a youngster. Thinking it’s another opportunity for the new brain trust to demonstrate if their mojo works. Hope they’re right. Go Cardinals. Get behind the kids.
Brenden,it does look very strange.
This is definitely a head scratcher
Bloom needs to explain this one.
This is definitely one of those head scratching WTF? moments. Trading away a 25 year old with 2 options for a 27 year old with zero options makes no sense to me. I would definitely love to hear the thinking behind this move.
Go Cards!
Did Bloom get into the whiskey?
Could bloom be switching from contact to strike out?
Sounds like a personal distancing kind of thing. Something off the field must be of a big concern.
Crazy
Bloom has a reason. Question is. What is it ??? Possibly Siriano’s arm slot or stuff is different from other Cardinal relievers. Could be they saw a correction to make Soriano better. Gives you a veteran for the bullpen. Possibly he could be turned into a starter if needed. ✨
Here is what I belive happened.
The 40 man roster was full.
At least 1 person is getting DFA'd to make room for Wetherholt before opening day.
And, it is very unlikely to be a position player. If any of the non-roster invites make the team, more than 1 player will need DFA'd, and it is going to be a pitcher.
Granillo was likely near the bottom of the depth list. So instead of waiting to DFA Granilo at the end of spring training, they make the trade, picked up Soriano, who they can work with during spring training and see if he has any future. If he does not work out, they can DFA him at the last minute prior to opening day, and he will likely then clear waivers, and they can retain him in the system. And, they probably had interest in him earlier this offseason.
JUST DON'T BRING BACK MILES MIKOLIS!
Did the Cards let Mozeliak back into office??? Seems like a Mo trade!
