[PFT] Bears didn’t get picks for Ian Cunningham hire because Matt Ryan is Falcons’ “primary football executive”

  1. Florio going to bat for us..

“Here’s where it gets confusing. When the Falcons hired Fontenot to be the G.M. in 2022, the Saints (Fontenot’s former employer) received the compensatory picks. But Rich McKay was the team president and CEO — and as of 2022 he was involved in football operations.

We’ve asked for an explanation as to why the picks were awarded then, if they’re not being awarded now. Stay tuned.”

  2. Arlington Heights and Indiana should band together to say they refuse to facilitate stadiums unless the Bears get their third round picks.

  3. Total bs is someone going to check and see who is actually doing the work and making decisions the rule should be much more clear

  4. The utter lack of consistency is astounding, especially given Matt Ryan’s own comments about his and Ian’s roles.

  5. Ryan has already admitted he knows nothing and will be relying on Cunningham for everything 😂 those picks are warranted and necessary for the Bears, this situation is the literal embodiment of the rule smdh

  6. If this is true this is just the NFL getting in their own way. It’ll come back to bite them

  7. Matt Ryan also said that Cunningham had primary control over the draft and free agency so this is even more bullshit.

  8. It’s only crazy bc it circumvents the whole point of the rule.

It disincentivizes a reason to give the lower level positions, a job.

Where it’s meant to incentivize, it then falls flat if it can be circumvented.

  9. Why bother taking the position if you aren’t going to do GM duties? Like it’s, a lateral move at this point. I assume the Bears can’t block it because of the position title, and at the same time, they probably want Ian to have his shot. This is crazy to me that the league wants to do this.

  10. Aren’t owners also executives (e.g. chairman)? By that logic, nobody would ever be awarded the picks, because ownership could technically overrule the GM.

  11. Why would any team hire a minority GM and not just claim the team president has final say? This system makes no sense

  12. I liked Leila Rahimi’s take on 670 The Score, that this is very much a spirit of the law vs letter of the law thing. And idk why NFL is being so stingy/stubborn about this. It seems to fulfill the spirit of the Rooney rule, isn’t that what they want at the end of the day?

  13. Such a lame loop hole. But that’s the nfl for you… we don’t know what an interception is, a catch is, and when u comp picks

  14. They should award 1 pick, admit it was confusing and rewrite the rules so it is 100 percent clear going forward
