[Seixeiro] Schneider on Berrios leaving during the World Series: ‘I think it was probably heat of the moment stuff. I think Jose realizes that it probably could’ve been handled a little bit differently on everyone’s end.’

  1. Everyone? Come on now. Berrios got huffy and decided not to participate in what some players never ever get to experience in their lifetimes. That’s just sad.

  2. Before this place begins to crucify Berrios for making a poor judgment choice, please understand these are incredibly prideful people. I’m sure after everything cooled down he realized he made a mistake and will make sure his team knows that.

Berrios has never once been talked about as a guy with any issues and has always been one of the most kind and generous people on the team.

  3. This is essentially what was widely suspected at the time, but it’s interesting to see John just plainly say it

  4. This is not great – support the team even if it stings your pride. Lost a lot of respect for him and I’m sure a lot of his teammates did too

  5. Expected better from him, but the past is in the past. Hopefully this season will be smoother for Berrios.

  6. I’m fine with this statement. It speaks to the need for accountability on both sides, which is what I want to see from my team. What’s JS gonna do, publicly put him on blast?

  7. Yeah it’s an unfortunate situation but not one that’s gonna force the team to make a change. But when another team comes calling looking for a SP I’m pretty sure his will be one of the first names brought up.

  8. I don’t care what he did if he pitches well this season. We’re here to win and late last season he unfortunately could not contribute to winning. If he can this year, that would be amazing.

  9. I mean cmon, we probably don’t win the trey games if Berrios is starting.. Berrios should’ve been there supporting his team that ultimately gave the ball club the best chance to win, and that mean not having Berrios pitch

  10. This was not the first time he was screwed over in playoffs by management and I expect there is a lot more to this story. I understand his frustration.

  11. They’ve done some.roumds now of John and Ross smoothing it out. That’s a pretty big signal that they’re still shopping him.

They need a big hitter to compete with LAD. So maybe Jose helps you acquire the pieces needed to make the move.

  12. Berrios would be our # 5 starter. Last year he started the season as our # 1. Huge difference!

  13. Berrios made a mistake…let it go…he has been a great teammate and workforce with the Jays.
His punishment will be getting up in front of his teammates and the media and having to answer to it.

  14. I’m not upset with Berrios for this. If he wasn’t in the right mental state, I’m okay with the franchise allowing him to be away from the team. I’d rather that then him being in a negative mood in the dugout

  15. Its sad, up until last year he was an okay starter, a guy who regularly ate up innings. Never a cy young candidate but someone who was usually healthy and you could give the team a solid chance at winning a game. Its a shame things fell apart for him just when the jays needed him the most. Hes not a young guy, but man you cant quite on a team like a 19 year old.

I hope he turns things around after some reflecting and returns to form. The jays could really use a dependable mid rotation arm.

  16. They were still handwaving away that anything was even amiss at the end of the season, this is a little vindicating

  17. I remember when people figured that those who thought Berrios was acting out were just jumping to conclusions and reading into things that weren’t there. Oof.

  18. No doubt it could have been handled differently by everyone involved and there’s no doubt that there are things that happened that we have no idea about.
