INJURY ALERT: Atlanta Braves Rotation SHAKEN as Spencer Schwellenbach Hits 60-Day IL

Atlanta Braves suffer a major setback as Spencer Schwellenbach lands on the 60-day IL before spring training begins, deepening concerns about pitching depth and rotation stability. Can Chris Sale, Spencer Strider, Reynaldo Lopez, and Grant Holmes rise to the challenge, or will injury woes derail Atlanta’s postseason ambitions once again?

Jake Mastroianni covers the impact of Schwellenbach’s right elbow inflammation, breaking down the ripple effects across the Braves’ pitching staff. Key topics include the urgency of adding arms like Chris Bassitt or Lucas Giolito, potential solutions with unproven depth, and the significance of new signing Jonah Heim at catcher. With position player depth being tested early and the looming specter of further injuries, the Braves’ front office faces critical decisions. Will these moves secure the team’s standing in the ultra-competitive NL East?

  1. Predictions I got wrong:

Ozuna to KBO. Kevin Pillar made the correct call: Ozuna to the Pirates.

Schwarber & Realmuto will leave the Phillies.

    Predictions I got right:

    Ranger Suarez leaves the Phillies.

Alonso, McNeil, Nimo leave the Mets.

    Predictions:

Walt Weiss will not make it to the end of his 3 year contract, but instead, will be fired.

Tim Hyers will be fired within 2 years.

The Phillies decline, not as strong as last year.

The Mets don't make the playoffs. Why? SP rotation problem still unresolved.

The Braves will the NL East and win the World Series.

The emergence of J. R. Ritchie and Lucas Braun in 2026.

  2. I can't believe Ozuna got signed by a MLB team.

I thought he was KBO bound. 90% certainty.

Kevin Pillar (former Braves) called it last year?. Spot on!

Ozuna should consider himself VERY FORTUNATE.

  3. Schwellenbach should get his elbow bone spurs cleaned up now so that he can pitch in the 2nd half.

It's frustrating not to have this done in last year's IL stint.

  4. Francisco Lindor left hamate bone injury.

Stearns says if he undergoes the procedure, he could ready by opening day. -doubtful and detrimental to the offense, not at full strength

  5. Let me get this straight – Schwellenbach, Smith-Shawver, Murphy and Kim are already on the 60 day IL, and spring training just started? 🤢🤮🥴😵😵‍💫😱💀☠💩💩💩💩

  6. On the bright side… its a long season. As we've seen just last year, keep the big arms healthy for the post season. I'd rather have a Schwelly miss 2 months up front and save his bullets for a post-season push.

  7. Gee I sure am glad that AA decided not to spend on the rotation and went with the "we good" approach. Seriously, with how the past couple of years have gone. Buy an entire backup rotation…and lineup.

  8. They will be fine!!!.If Acuna-Olson-Riley hit well be fine Bullpen is strong. Sale-Strider & Lopez can carry staff with anyone else you want to throw in. Most teams aren’t that lucky to have even two quality starters. When Shwellenbach comes back he will be rested for what matters Playoffs. They will sign or trade for a starter just watch.

  9. What are you thinking that elder and Holmes deserve a spot over waltrip after a stellar rookie season? I would hella put waltrip in at number four if not possibly even number three and eventually we would swell them back back. We get ajss back

  10. The Braves needed a bassitt or Gio BEFORE this. Now they need to make a trade for a playoff starter AND add an inning guy they are in deep. AA has fumbled another off season. It’ll interesting to see how long he skates on a lucky 21 deadline and fluky run followed by multiple failing seasons while watching the good members of the world series core walk and extending the wrong members

  11. No need to panic yet. We're still gonna have a battle for 5th starter between Elder, Holmes, Martin Perez, and Wentz. We also have Jose Suarez back as a fall back.
There is no need to pay $25M for Bassitt lol

  12. Ugh. I'll be surprised if he doesn't need TJ surgery again. Gotta get another starter . either trade or Bassitt or Giolito. Hard to see at least another SP not going down with this staff. Scramble mode…

  13. I'm not that confident in Holmes making a good recovery. Will he be ready?? Puts even More pressure on the offense. Hope they can step up. My confidence level is iffy!!! As you have said – Riley is a major part of that. So looking forward to the 26 season and baseball games on TV.
