I Agree With Almost Everything… Except This.

In this video I respond to The Hockey Guy’s recent video on the Montreal Canadiens. I start by giving credit where it’s due — he produces some of the best and most balanced hockey coverage on YouTube, especially considering he covers the entire league.

That said, when you follow one team closely, there are details and nuances that stand out differently, and there were a few areas where I see things a bit differently.

I talk about the idea that Patrik Laine is the only bad contract on the Canadiens and explain why I think Brendan Gallagher’s deal still isn’t good value despite the rising cap, and why Josh Anderson’s contract still depends heavily on role and usage.

I also dig deeper into Montreal’s defensive numbers and how goaltending has factored into those results at times this season, as well as the context behind the team’s penalty totals and style of play.

I discuss the debate over the Canadiens’ best contract — arguing that while Nick Suzuki may be the most important player on the team, Lane Hutson may actually represent the best value relative to what elite offensive defensemen are projected to earn in the future.

I also react to the idea that Montreal could be the next Canadian team to win the Stanley Cup and why that trajectory isn’t as far-fetched as it might sound given the organization’s direction, resources, and market appeal.

Finally, I talk about expectations — and why I believe both fans and players will absolutely expect progress year after year, including deeper playoff runs, because that mindset is part of what makes competitive teams improve.

  1. Thanks for watching everyone! And shoutout to all of you who’ve been following the channel and supporting the videos, it really means a lot 🙏

I’m curious, do you agree that expectations in Montreal are starting to rise, or do you think it’s still too early to expect playoff success? Let me know what you think 👇🔥🏒

  2. I may jump the gun, commenting just as you are saying it, but the Hockey Guy is right the for the 2025-26 season, Suzuki's contract is the best. Hutson's will be, but he is still on his entry level contract as of now, and I don't think you can really take entry level in consideration for ''best contract'', because it kinda inevitably is for many teams.

I mean, isn't Celebrini's contract the absolute best right now? Technically yes…. but no 🙂

  3. I prorate Gally's contract in my mind. At 22 years old, he took a ~2 M discount x 6 years to help Bergevin sign extensions and sign UFAs. PS. Is Iron Maiden still considered metal in 2026?

  4. Josh Anderson goes unnoticed in most games, which is fine when you're a 5/6D man but this guy was supposed to be a unicorn like Tom Wilson. Huge disappointment and a bad contract.

This team can go DEEP. The break will be good for them.

  5. I want them to have playoff success too, but we can’t let this rebuild turn into a NYR situation. We’ve seen what having heightened expectations too early can do
