Do We Still NEED The NHL Handshake Line?? π | FN Barn Burner
Boomer, Pinder & Rhett dive into the debate surrounding the NHL playoff handshake line and whether itβs still an essential tradition or an unnecessary formality after a hard-fought series. The guys discuss the respect and sportsmanship the handshake line represents in the history of the NHL, while also questioning if it still holds the same meaning today. The conversation heats up when they reference Paul Maurice skipping the line during the Eastern Conference Second Round between the Florida Panthers and Toronto Maple Leafs, with Maurice saying the tradition should belong to the players who battle through the physical and emotional grind of a playoff series β not the coaches. Is the handshake line a sacred part of hockey culture, or is it time to rethink the tradition?

Thanks for sharing that Rhett!!
Yeh we need it! Maybe the poor sports just leave. But sportsmanship is at its all time lowest!
Who gives a crap about the handshake line when the modern NHL looks more like millionaire men's non-contract rec league. The handshake fits PERFECT for these cheesy Fortnite, phone addicted, THC gummy, weenie boys.
Canada destroyed the sport with rich kid helicopter parents and lawyers. The old days don't mean shit anymore.
That said, not shaking the opponents hand out respect sounds like the biggest man-baby sore loser shit ever.
Handshake stays. Next Topic … π
Real men can beat the shit out of each other. Shake hands out of respect, your generation missed that.
if they got rid of the handshake line , the leafs would never win any respect- sheldon keefe
As an outsider, a fan, Iβve loved the two teams shaking hands at the end of a series. That being said, I do understand where Rhett is coming from. Like, your season is done, this team that beat you just took all the hope of you accomplishing a potential Stanley Cup. That being said, I do like the handshake line.
For me, as a fan of racing. The coolest thing I ever saw was when Dale Earnhardt won the 1998 Daytona 500. Every crew member from basically every team. Formed a line on pit road after he won the race, and shook his hand.
While I appreciate what Rhett and the panel are saying, the handshake line is for the fans. It shows us you respect the game and each other.
Ilya Bryzgalov: Its only a game
Itβs one of the things that sets hockey apart. Leave it. Itβs a great look for the league when two teams can physically destroy each other and still shake hands and a pat on the back after. Respect for your opponents is respect for yourself.
The handshake line is just an unwritten rule in hockey. I mean, our men's league can have all out brawls and threats of death on a Monday night and everyone still lines up after the game and shakes hands and it's over with. It's one of the strangest traditions, but you gotta love it.
