Why Are Milwaukee Brewers so OBSESSED With Pitching and Middle Infielders?
Milwaukee Brewers stockpile pitching and middle infield talent, but power bats remain elusive—what’s Matt Arnold’s real game plan?
Alec Bohm’s rumored trade value drops, yet Chuck Freimund argues Brewers fans should aim higher. Isaac Paredes emerges as preferred target, sparking debate about the future of third base and whether in-house solutions like Sal Frelick or Brock Wilken can truly fill the gap.
Chuck Freimund breaks down the Brewers’ offseason strategy, tackling the Durbin deal, fan reactions, and the competition heating up in the NL Central with the Cubs, Reds, and Pirates eager to break Milwaukee’s reign. Key topics include the Brewers’ farm system strength, upcoming division battles, pitching depth, and urgent questions surrounding the lack of proven power hitters. Can the Brewers stay favorites or will rival teams finally topple their three-year title streak?

I think Jesus Made will be your 3b in 2027. We are STOCKED with promising shortstop prospects right now. It is unreal! Make a trade for a good outfielder with pop.
What if Vaugh returns to his White Sox tanking? Blake Burke?
It seems like these deals for young pitching are being made for 2027. Every infield position except second where we have Turang, is in the upper levels of our minor league system. Made, Pena, Fischer, Quero, Wilkens/Burke. Lara is future CF. Load up on pitching now so that in 2027 you know where you stand with all the young arms.
Brewers fan from Shanghai. Not Shanghai, China, but Shanghai, West Virginia. Grew up in Wisconsin in the 70s, spent time in the Right Field bleacher section with my Little League teammates, cheering on Sixto Lescano. Brew Crew Kazoo years! ❤
Has Chuirio made it out of Venezuela yet?
Options at 3rd seem slim but here's a rental the Brewers could afford with the savings from the Peralta trade, 3 team trade where Brewers get Alec Bohm; let me know what you think about it.
Astros get 2B prospect Aroon Escobar from Phillies and OF Jake Bauers, SP Carlos F. Rodriguez from Brewers
Phillies get 3B Isaac Paredes and OF Zach Cole Jr. from Astros
I’m a massive fan of the moves made this offseason regardless of the non spending because that’s just the norm. I think the Brewers have the best farm in baseball and it’s not even close. We always get antsy and want to push chips in and go all in but the reality is that doesn’t work for small markets. Brewers are going to be good for a long time with the moves made.
Brewers have plenty of young control pitching. This move doesn't make alot of sense to me. Durbin had tons of control. Had a decent rookie year. You would think he learn alot would have a better year. Bohman he doesn't have alot of control left and getting 10 million. Nothing doesn't make any sense.
They trade Durbin for 2 more inches
I like Andrew Fischer's swing. Almost Geoff Jenkins "ish:. I don't think he is quite ready for mlb pitching. Wilken/combo Jett then Fischer by all star break. Unless they pull a trade.
Brewers are a food service at a $500 Blackjack table. Pointless.
Good pitching stops good hitting.
I think the brewers determined they weren’t good enough to win the World Series with the roster, and rather than spend money, determined their window to win the world series is when all those infield prospects are ready (1-3 years from now). Thus they decided to trade for a bunch of young cheap pitching
⚾ GO ⚾ BREWER'S ⚾ They better get obsessed with a 3rd baseman. I wouldn't sw itch a gold glovers position.⚾ Brewer fan from Indiana
I am not a fan of shuffling these players around to different positions all the time. Murphy was doing that in the playoffs for some reason in the outfield. I think even if some of these players "can" play other positions doesn't mean they always should be doing it. There is a comfort level of being in your everyday position.
Durbin was a line drive clutch hitter who played good defense and Collins was a good hitter prior to injury. Trading production for a reclamation project who doesn't profile as being successful in big leagues as a starter.
I was thrilled to see Durbin come over to my Boston Redsox. I was really surprised that the Brewers were willing to part with him. Great looking player. He reminds me of a gritty Dustin Pedroia. Lots of team control for both sides of the trade. You guys got some good controllable young pitching back . Looks like a good trade for both teams. I am happy to see baseball coming back soon. Good luck this season. Good video. Go Brewers & Redsox !
Personally I think it’s because of the parity at those positions. The difference between an okay outfielder and a good one is MUCH less than the difference between an okay middle infielder or pitcher and a good one. The Brewers have thrived off the philosophy that you can win games with questionable outfielders and replaceable infielders; as long as they have good pitching and do the little things right such as bat on ball, good base running, etc.
Two promising much-needed left handed pitchers for three infielders who we are still all unsure about. This was a remarkable trade. Eventually, they put it together better than any other franchise. Not 83 wins but at least 93 and another central crown. Some of these will become premiere players and the Brewers will win the World Series. Jett Williams will be our third baseman, they created this for him. The triple a pitcher is the gem of all six of these players.
Wait until July before you say that there is no way we got better. Our starting staff last year was highly questionable. How did that turn out? Our first baseman was so good going in, but was replaced by a White Sox castoff who was phenomenal and our original became expendable. Yelich, again, was ignored as one of the best in baseball, but his stats show that he is. Contreras, Turang, Vaughn, Churio all have pop. How many do you need? Let's let the Brewers figure this out. They always do it this way and it always seems to work out.
Chuck, you always trade your stars for prospects because your organization is too cheap to pay the salary of a proven player. Perhaps management is still angry about being fleeced by Yelich. On a different note, how many lucky ladies are saying they are so glad they turned down a date with you!
The brewers got better organically not with moves. It will be nice to actually have 5 starters for the first month, they have more experience and there's still time to add
Replacement starting pitching costs a ton of money. They now have good depth and control a number of younger starting pitching. Woodruff is gone next year and will be replaced by one of them. Guys like Gasser and Henderson are coming back from injury and will have to prove themselves in AAA to start the year. Injuries always happen during the season, the first two months of last year had constant turnover.
Chuck remember last 2 years Brewerers used 14 starters in regular season & it nevers hurts have too many ss because ss can play anywhere best baseball players
Brewers over under 80.5 take the over
Padares cant play defense no thanks
A wealth of young unproven pitching and a great farm system. That means a playoff bid, ONE AND DONE, and that young talent is traded away and moves along. Rinse and repeat. Personally, it's getting old.
Paredes hit 20 hr and 56 RBIs last season I say let's go for him at 3rd base.
The reason it was only a five game lead at the end of the season was Murph took his foot off the gas and started all kinds of experimental lineups in September that ruined the momentum which carried into October.
I wanna hear more about this woman that you dodge a bullet with. Chuck is a player!
I am taking the under 80 wins. This is a 75 to maybe 78 win tean.
Brewers r not even close to division favorites. They’re +240, cubs r only +115, cards in a distant last place at +2500. I did a parlay already w brewers to win division and Seahawks Super Bowl ML. Let’s go
As of now, you are the only sports journalist that brings up Frelick moving to 3rd base. I don't see that happening unless some lesser known outfielder makes a gigantic leap to starter.
Turang is a natural shortstop, so I'm not certain why the Brewers won't just place him there?
