You are the umpire and this is how you see the game.

  1. Anybody that thinks this looks fun should go volunteer for your local Little League, it is fun and they need you.

  2. Two things learned here (two that everyone probably already knew):

    1. It’s really hard to do this job.

    2. No HP ump should ever call a check swing.

  3. I’m a patched high school varsity umpire and it is not an easy job, even at that low level. I don’t do it for the pay, and I certainly don’t do it to make friends. I do it for the kids and because it’s baseball. And every really good umpire I’ve ever met also likes to demonstrate excellence and pay it forward to the players and fans. There is no better sport out there.

  4. I don’t see in portrait mode, I don’t have those useless out of focus bars above and below, and I have a much wider field of vision.

  5. Calling balls and strikes is so tough. I don’t freak about close calls for this reason. Still pro-robo calls, but you have to appreciate the difficulty in this part of the job

  6. I half expected the video to go black after the one baseball this the umpire, and then fade into “Hey, you’re awake!”

  7. MLB would be silly not to have this as a watchable option. This is exciting and different. Baseball can be boring at times. DO IT

  8. It’s surreal to watch the speed and the spin of these behind the plate. We complain about umps, but damn if I didn’t flinch at every one of these coming at the camera.
