Why Possible Joe Burrow Restructure Matters, What It Could Mean for Bengals Offseason

Restructuring Joe Burrow’s contract could create more than $19 million of cap space for the Cincinnati Bengals in 2026 without affecting Burrow’s bottom line.

Jake Liscow and James Rapien break down exactly what a “restructure” means, how it creates cap space at minimal cost, why Burrow wouldn’t be opposed, and why it could signal a more impactful offseason of talent acquisition for a front office that needs to display agility and creativity in free agency.

  1. The problem with Duke answering the questions about cap and contracts is that HE doesnt do that. From what I can tell, it's still in Katie Brown Blackburn's hands. So how does he really know what he's talking about?

  2. You mean the Bengals lower the cap hit to spend money against the cap that they never exhaust anyway? You guys must be hard up for content. I propose another video in which we hear that Burrow, Higgins, and Chase are the best offensive skill players in the NFL, and if we combined them with the Seahawks' defense, they'd be SB favorites.

  3. The Bengals don't want us to know this. They live in a bubble that has them believing that they can point to the salary cap as proof that they are all in, when it's publicly available info that proves they aren't all in. The only way this changes is if Joe Burrow calls them out on it. He's the only person on the planet with the juice to move the needle. He needs to use this equity to the betterment of the franchise. He needs to throw his weight around on this.

  4. Hey, you guys are just starting to sell false narratives and fake hope.

So you really think the Brown family is gonna move more money up to pay Joe more now so they can spend more in free agency? Have we not been paying attention to how they operate? No way a restructure with the intent to allow them to spend more now, not who they are, stop selling fake hope.

They intentionally structured the Higgins and Chase contracts the way they did to disallow themselves to spend more money and to sway public perception, saying we spent this much to the cap when they could’ve structured it differently to allow themselves to spend even more, but that’s not who they are, so stop selling lies to people. You have fans who actually believe the stuff you say

  5. I hope they do restructure Joe's contract. The time to win is now. Not one superbowl trophy sitting in that stadium. It's not a shot at them but just a fact. I think most fans are not asking them to technically go all in and sacrifice totally future years, but let's get a little more aggressive. Let's free up some cash and stick into a defense that desperately needs it.

  6. They will not "do whatever it takes". They will do the minimum prudent (in their eyes) moves that get them marginally better…or not, but THEY will think they have done "enough" to make the team better.

  7. Guys. Come on. You’re not this naive. Ownership LOVES the cap. A spending limit they can point to and say “oh no! We can’t spend more money 🥺” ?!?
lol. We know they aren’t gonna go all out. They never do.

  8. This organization has not signed a day one free agent in quite a while. I don't see them doing things any differently this year. I hope I'm wrong. I hope they prove me wrong. I hope this offseason is going to be different. I hope they take steps to better the defense. But due to historically not wanting to spend top dollars and the lack of a true Personnel department and a true scouting Department. I think this offseason is going to be as Bland as last years.

  9. Is this the same restructure plan that James asked Burrow about last year? Burrow said he would and it was never considered by the front office. James asked Duke the same question and he gave some non committal response. Sorry, it’s not happening and you both know it. If there was any interest in freeing up cap space the Bengals could have done that with Tee and Jamar’s contracts last year. This cheap front office isn’t going to suddenly modernize.

  10. They're not going to do it guys, we all know that. They purposely do it the way they do to keep the cash spend low. They don't want to spend what they have, let alone to add say $20 million to that number. They've set it up so it always looks like they're spending the money everyone else does, but they don't really wade in deep cash spend waters. Because if they miss?? It would cripple them if whatever they did didn't work and they were out a bunch of money and draft capital. So I just don't see it. Best we could hope for is a big name like Crosby or Simmons

  11. I really hope that the Front Office listens to James and Jake… wish James were hired by the Front Office so they could get some smart analysis and good advice.
