[Passan] Chris Bassitt to the Baltimore Orioles

  1. I believe if we really wanted him back he would’ve stayed, this seems like we never offered him anything

Good bye hound dog, thanks for everything 🙏🏻

(Going to a division rival though, ouch)

  2. I mean, loved CBass and he’s a inning eater, but there honestly wasn’t a spot for him in the rotation. The Os rotation still isn’t that good and their bullpen is truly terrible, CBass doesn’t move the needle for the Os. They still need more tbh

  3. sea ya later bass. Lot of respect for how he handled the post season. Came up super clutch too.

  4. On a personal level, I hate this. Chris has been a steady contributor to the jays and I love him in the clubhouse.

However, on the face of it, I don’t know where he would have really fit on the team. I know he wants to be a starter, and our team is pretty flush with those already.

  5. That’s a shame. I was hoping we would get a reunion with him, but the front office probably didn’t want to give him a starter job.

  6. I get it, I really do, but this one hurts. He just seem like he embodied so much of why last season’s team was so magic, and he cared so much. He was willing to do whatever was asked of him. I’ll miss him. 🥺

  7. I figured he would get a two-year deal.

Expect the Jays to sign Scherzer for $13.5M now, because he’ll want to make sure he earns that extra $500K over Verlander

  8. Bassitt has been one of my favourite players over the past few years. He did a great job on the mound for us and just seems like a solid guy. We need to give him a big standing ovation and welcome back on June 5th when the Orioles come to the SkyDome.

  9. Just said to my girlfriend at dinner: “I haven’t heard anything about Bassitt yet. I hope we bring him back.”

  10. Listen, the Jays didn’t trust Bassitt as one of their top 4 starters last playoffs. They signed Cease AND Ponce, still have Lauer, and Berrios is healthy. Did I want to see if he could become Casey Janssen 2.0, f*** ya I did, but the Jays weren’t dropping $19M for a player like that, and Bassitt likely wants to be a starter. I figured this is what would happen, I hope he has a great year but somehow loses every game 😛 (unless the Orioles stink, then just games against the Jays is acceptable)

  11. Sucks to lose him, but a 37 year old at 18m when we already have 5 starters on this team, it didn’t make sense.

  12. I am oh so hurt. Love ya anyways CBass! But why oh why the AL East 😭

Oh! And just wanted to mention, the amazing work he and his wife has done for the Jays Care Foundation, thank you so much for everything!

  13. Based on how Max Scherzer is, I think 1 year, 13.5mil is the offer we need to make to get him signed.

  14. Would have loved to keep him. He was a great club house guy and his stuff was nasty. Won’t forget his bullpen dominance in the post season.
