The Pressure is on Yzerman and the Red Wings Now | The Valenti Show with Rico
Now that Chris Ilitch’s Tigers have spent in free agency, is it the Red Wings turn to do the same?

Are they high? What good would it do for Yzerman to call Chris and ask for money? There's a salary cap. I don't think there's ever been an issue with the Wings spending to the cap.
Please do some research on the trade market this year, who's available, if they fit into our long-term plans, etc. There are only a few players who aren't rentals that fit for our team's needs this year. The supply for top six forwards and top 4 d-men is next to nothing, so demand is high and will require overpay. Yzerman won't take any heat, he's a hometown hero and has a cult following from fans. The team is primed to make a big move, we have the most cap space in the league and one of the best prospect pools…but this year's deadline might not be the time he pulls the trigger.
Will skubal be here this year. That’s the real question.
WAYYYYY more buyers than sellers in the NHL. Teams that are selling are going to want A LOT for players, most of which will be rentals. Everything will be like the Quinn Hughes deal, and I think giving up a lot for a little is a mistake. Stevie Y knows what he's doing. When Yzerman was hired I said to myself that it will take 10 years to be routinely competitive, and we are ahead of schedule. Holland ruined this entire organization from Toledo up. Toledo, winners, Grand Rapids, dominant, and the Red Wings are better and better each year.
The Wings have prospects and money if Yzerman can’t make it happen it’s incompetence. Tired of excuses.
It's still possible for the Wings to miss the playoffs. I expect moves at the trade deadline. Either shit or get off the pot. Either trade all our assets to rebuild or sign some talent and make a run at the playoffs
Fire stevie Fire stevie Fire stevie Iv been saying that for the last 5 years
Nope, the pressure is on the Wings players. Yzerman has put together a team currently in the top three of their division, proving they can win. If they choke now, that’s on them. Larkin crying about no big trade deadline move after last season, when he was the invisible man after Four Nations is pathetic. Check on how many 5 on 5 goals Larkin has this season, also pathetic.
There’s no salary cap in baseball. There is no correlation here. Never understood this logic of making direction comparisons like this when talking about spending in sports with a hard cap.
Lets take a shot at Crosby
We get it, you don't like the Yzerplan. Either that or you don't understand it. Can we be happy they're a top 3 seed in the most competitive division right now? Go Wings!
Remember, these two openly admit they have no clue about hockey. They're just forced to talk about it because it's popular in this town. Steve will make a trade. It will be a top-four D and possibly a top-six forward, hopefully an LW to play with Larkin and Raymond. It won't be anything flashy, but it's going to help the team. There are too many buyers this year, especially in the East, which has the "balls to the wall" approach make little sense.
Call me crazy but I think Steve will actually buy at the deadline this time (assuming the team doesn’t fall off a cliff in March that is).
This is coming from two guys who don’t know hockey players from European ambassadors
You guys shouldn't be allowed to talk hockey.
I agree with Rico because most of these GMs will always default to Coney Island speech because it’s the least path of resistance, especially when expectations are high.
Couldn't agree more with "there isn't any cover for Steve" if the wings don't make the playoffs this year he should be gone. I say this as a massive Stevie fan, and hell I even named my dog Stevie after him.
He will make a move if there are players available, on a reasonable salary, whose age fits within the timeframe of our core
Steve Yzerman and Scott Harris do not "consult" on when they should ask for money "from daddy". They plan for their teams accordingly, independently. We may not like HOW they do it, but they have "their plans". Steve has never blamed owner spending. It seems like he has his plan for building the team…that these guys, and now fans, may not like
