4. This was not Slafkovsky's first Olympic Brian. He is one of the only players to have played in the last one because he was not an NHL player yet, and he was actually really huge last time too from what I understand

5. Who would have guessed Italy has a goalie that was drafted in the 2nd round, the fact this was a 1 goal game with like 4 minutes left is crazy

6. If the Wings trade for Elias Petterson, ideally Vancouver would retain 3 million per year and that would get his cap hit down to 8.6 million, which would be in line with what Larkin and the other top players on the Wings are making.

Don't know how you stay positive day in and day out and ignore this other guy's body language and uncontrolled ego problems. It's so hard to watch a good podcast when it's continually and randomly derailed by one person's ego twists and turns.. unable to control what tiny slight pisses him off etc. I'm done.

12. I would say a way of trading for A.P.40 might work if say Vancouver would keep at least 30% but ideally 50% of his salary. Then in return I can see Detroit giving something similar or on the dot of a 2nd round pick next year's draft and say a 7th and a 4th this draft as well as some type of prospect. Thoughts? 19. Hi Brian and Scotty! Red Wings from Italy here! I watched the game against Sweden yesterday and it was real fun! I’m looking forward to travel to Milan on February 18th for a quarterfinal game!! 20. I always find it interesting when folks "hate Gary Bettman" for something he didn't do. Remember, the owners are the ones who control many of the things we do or don't like, and in the case of Olympics, the owners didn't want their assets getting injured in Olympic competition. Bettman is the mouthpiece, but he doesn't control near as much as people think. Just a thought from the business side of things.

About Pettersson & potential targets for Detroit at center… Sure, i can definitely see a world where Trocheck is a target, but for the simple reason that we choose to sign Andrew Copp over him when we did makes me think it won't happen. Trocheck is turning 33 aswell and has 3 years left on his deal, he is also relying a lot on playing physical to be effective, which is risky the older you get. I just don't think Trocheck will be WORTH the assets giving up when he very fast could become a negative asset. Robert Thomas is probably the top C out there, but likely a bidding war over and will cost more to aquire then Quinn Hughes, simply because his good value contract. I think Thomas is the ideal 2nd line C to have on a contender but problem is that Larkin is honestly that aswell… If you really wanna swing for the fences i still think the best option would be Elias Pettersson in Vancouver, and heres why;

    I think there definitivly is a world where EP40 returns to a legit #1 C and puts up 100+ points again, specially in Detroit where his motivation would be all time high to perform. Pettersson grew up in Sundsvall and played for Timrå (which is in Sundsvall) where Henrik Zetterberg remains a cult player. There is a reason why he wears #40, it's his hockey idol growing up. This with add to the success and culture of swedish players Detroit have enjoyed (and still do, i believe Minnesota is the only team with more swedes in the NHL?), there is absolutley a risk worth doing, specially now that EP's value in a trade is at all all time low and we have 2nd most cap space in the NHL!!

    We always talk about these super skilled players (specially in the MIDDLE of their prime, remember that Pettersson JUST turned 27!) NEVER get available, that you have to draft (often with top 3 draft picks and we know that never happens in Detroit🙄) and develop them yourself. Yes Elias Pettersson have had a dip in his career last two seasons, but that is the ONLY reason he is available for a trade to begin with AND the whole Canucks team have been an total sh*tshow. I think Detroit are foolish not to atleast look into it. The risk is the cap, which we have a boatload off even if Edvinsson contract costs you 10 mil, you can afford the risk with how much the cap goes up and EP have a NMC so probably could even there be had for less alone, Detroit SHOULD atleast be a team he would be willing to waive a trade for given reason named above with idolizing Zetterberg & the Red Wings growing up, all the swedes on the roster and the fact that he have played with Raymond before internationally and showed chemistry.

    I understand the whole "we need grit" thing but i think the against EP for that is more rooted in that he is a european player then anything, in the end this team need a potential skilled 1C guy more then guys that punch faces… I mean Kane never ever engages in anything physical but never hear a thing about that, because he is so skilled in other ways… I rather take pure TALENT & SKILL over punching guys in the face every day of the week… And i grew up idolizing physical players like Börje Salming, Bob Probert, Darren McCarty, Martin LaPointe…

    My two cents… I still believe Detroit's biggest need is to get a legit top 4 dman to finally fix that 2nd pair, but i choose to focus on C in this post since that is what they where talking mostly here with the Pettersson rumours…
