I have very conflicted feelings. Love is supposed to be the next Robinson and he would thrive in Andy’s offense. On the other hand, having a strong pass rusher to strengthen Spags blitz defense would awesome too
Not far from where I’m at which is kinda scary.
I would not be shocked if the Chiefs board starts with 1. Bain and 2. Downs. Spags loves safeties
We need pass rush. How can anyone watch the Super Bowl and go, gee whiz, we need a RB over a pass rusher? Yes, Seattle had both but Andy doesn’t run it to set up the play action. Their offense is very different from ours.
Edit: no idea but different got autocorrected to sincerest??
I’d love some love, I don’t think he’ll be there though, he’s the best player in the draft, he’s likely going top 5
I agree, except for Love. KC can’t afford a 1st round RB.
The “positive” on the Chiefs is that this iteration of the team has holes almost everywhere. Obviously, QB is covered (which is a MASSIVE advantage for a team like the Chiefs drafting early). But I would even say TE is a position of need, given that Travis is back for maybe a season (?).
They really are in a position to take the “best player available” and it would probably help. I don’t think Love is going to be a generational running back (which is the only reason you’d take one early). That would probably be my only “nope.” But there are half a dozen positions that a big time upgrade would help with immediately.
Success in the draft is going to come down to flawless scouting and the prudence not to reach on anyone.
i agree. getting good pass rush is much harder than a good RB, and the Chiefs are in a dire situation on that front. as sick as Love would be, the Chiefs could get meaningful improvement with a FA signing and a mid round pick on RB. this of course, assumes that Bain or Bailey are still around at 9. if not, they shouldnt reach for a guy either.
EDGE should be priority, but if there isnt a guy there, then just go BPA
Carnell Tate. If you can get the blue chip Ohio State wide receiver, you take the blue chip Ohio State Wide receiver.
I’d switch Love and Downs/WR but this is basically correct.
I’m not convinced we’ve actually solved our tackle issues. Simmons will be great, but we need to cut our starting RT, Taylor, and our swing tackle, Jaylon Moore, is only signed one more season (and at a high pay rate). I’m pretty sure if we protect Mahomes with two 1st round tackles on a rookie pay scale, we can take the savings and put it towards a couple of aging edge rushers (think Carlos Dunlap types) to round out our rotation. So while an OT is not the “sexy” pick at #9 (and maybe a trade-down would help sweeten the deal), I think it’s very likely that we take an OT, and really nail down the solution in front of Mahomes, to ensure he has 4 healthy seasons, and he can get back to being a passer during the regular season, who only breaks out the scrambles and “second play” craziness in the playoffs. If we can get a foundational tackle at #9 (Spencer Fano?) or trade down to pick up a year one starter without overdrafting ([Kadyn Proctor](https://www.nflmockdraftdatabase.com/players/2026/kadyn-proctor) or [Caleb Lomu](https://www.nflmockdraftdatabase.com/players/2026/caleb-lomu) in the second tier), I’m on board.
I have mixed feelings about Love as well. I know it’s a huge risk due to average longevity at the position, but the idea of forcing defenses to commit to stopping the run is tempting. If we could guarantee even 3 seasons of elite production over the next 5 years, I’d be tempted to pull the trigger. I would still prefer Bain but I’m pretty certain he’ll be off the board by then.
I don’t really understand the idea of hating any offensive lineman. We’ve seen what OL injuries can do to a team 2 years in a row now. Simmons and Kingsley are promising on the left side but they still need a long term answer at RT. If no tackles have gone by the time they pick idk why it would be terrible to take one if that’s their highest graded player.
I’d go edge and even consider Kendrick Faulk but how good would he be if Bain and Bailey are off the board? After that I’d go Caleb Downs and then the best wide receiver available in that order. depending on first round I’d go wide receiver or defense in the second round. and i’d take a running back in the third round
Hope for Bain or Bailey, if neither guy is there trade back and wait Cassius Howell. He should be better than the last time we took a local kid at EDGE in the first round (Rock State baby!)
Ive been saying it for a while go up and get him if hes at 4 or 6 veach has to pull the trigger
Chiefs wouldn’t even need to worry about RB vs DLine if Veach hadn’t been a fucking moron and gone into last season with fucking Pop as RB1
Take the edge and sign Dowdle.
Safety at #9 is a luxury we cant afford. Plenty of time later in the draft to get a solid safety. Would rather go d line or even o line than Downs.
I’m team do whatever it takes to trade up for Bain or Bailey. This is a rare opportunity to has a chance at an elite pass rusher without going through free agency it’d be utterly foolish to pass up on it.
Finding a great running back, tight end or safety can be done in later rounds. Top pass rushers are rare.
In theory the chiefs will not be drafting this high again any time soon. Do whatever it takes to get an ELITE level prospect at a PREMIUM position. Don’t settle on reaching for a TE or S that will be a modest upgrade or reaching for Love when the drop off in rounds 2-4 at RB are not that significant
He “would hate” an O lineman? In this economy???
I’d go with D line first, but Pat’s coming off an ACL and every team is one lineman injury away from being a bottom 10 unit, I’ll take an O-linemen any day
I don’t know anything about any of the draft class, but can I just say, getting someone of high character is of utmost importance to me. I don’t want there to be a sniff of a question about their maturity or past indiscretions. I get second chances, and people making “mistakes”, but we are trying to win games as a billions of dollars company, and you do that with a cohesive, bought-in group of men. I feel like part of Andy’s MO is trying to heal the ghost of his son. It’s admirable, but it’s also his responsibility to the 52 guys in the locker room, whose livelihoods depend on it, to assemble additive pieces, not morality projects.
*steps off of soapbox
This is all a moot point and they will attempt to draft a “hidden gem” and he will end up being a corner. I feel like I always see the chiefs drafting outside of what everyone expects to be the right choice.
This is all moot because Bain, Bailey, and Love are all going to be gone by pick 9. The best we can hope for is Downs, or at least that Veach doesn’t let Spags talk him into reaching for Faulk or some other bum edge who will never have an impact.
We need Caleb Downs, that is all 😂
agreed, but Tate (big outside WR that can win vertically, we need this bad) would be my choice if Bain and Bailey are gone, Love would be after that
The best running back value comes in the first two rounds of the draft. If you look at the rushing leaders this season, the majority were drafted in those rounds. Any back taken after that is a crapshoot. Jeremiah Love on a rookie RB deal could be a cap boon for the Chiefs.
I don’t understand the hate on taking an OT. I get it, they have sunk significant resources into the Oline but you have a need at RT, a QB coming of a major injury, and grabbing a bookend tackle who could possible be with Mahomes until he retires isn’t a bad thing.
I would like one of Bailey, Bain, Downs and then Tate. In that order.
I don’t see a world where one of those four is not available at #9.
If Bain is available I think we have to take him
I don’t think either Bain or Bailey will be available at 9 though. And even if Bailey’s available he’s not a scheme fit for Spags.
It looks like we’re headed towards a situation where Caleb Downs is the best player available. And if that’s the case I say take him, regardless of Safety not being a high impact position. Because he’s guaranteed to be a great player in the NFL at a spot we need help in and wouldn’t have to fill again for five years.
I think a safety upgrade would be huge. Spags scheme relies on the secondary holding up long enough for the blitz to get home and we couldn’t do it this year
I agree with all of it, I just don’t get why he would hate any offensive lineman? Because our O-Line wasn’t healthy at all last season?
At first I thought they should take an edge or d lineman at 9, but I doubt the 2 they really want will still be available. I don’t think tackle is settled yet either. With so many holes still, it’s probably best to trade back from 9, and try to get pass rusher and a right tackle at the end of the first or beginning of the second.
I’d honestly would have any of the top 3 WRs (Carnell Tate, Jordyn Tyson, Makai Lemon) as a higher priority. Because I’m not confident that the Chiefs future franchises pass catcher is on the roster right now.
Rashee Rice probably isn’t getting extended with his off-the-field issues and missed time
Xavier Worthy struggled mightiliy in Year 2 and his ceiling may be a low end WR2
You’re not bringing back Hollywood Brown and Juju Smith-Schuster
While I do want them to bring back Tyquan Thornton, Tyquan’s role is better suited at WR2 or WR3 than as your first option.
I would be fine with either
Fa RB sign, my fantasy GOAT! Rico Dowdle
Am I the only one that hopes that maybe the raiders would be willing to trade us their second round pick and next years first for our first this year? I really really want Jeremiah Smith.
The more I think about it, the more I think Caleb Downs at #9 is best case scenario. Well, best case scenario is Bain at 9 but best realistically is Downs. I think he’d immediately be the best safety in KC since healthy Eric Berry. WRs are somewhat questionable (though I’d still take Tyson or Tate if Downs is gone), RB can be addressed in FA, not sold on any OL currently.
So yeah I’m gonna be kinda disappointed if we don’t get Downs at this point.
Lmfao, what a dumbass, Caleb Downs is the clear answer at the 9th overall pick
I don’t think we land Bains or Bailey unless we trade up. What we can’t do is reach for an edge at 9 if they are gone, we need to take Love or BPA at that point.
Nick Wright is to chiefs fans what Skip Bayless is to cowboys fans. A terrible representation of our fandom.
Goddammit Nick!
This Frank Clark slander will not stand!
2 superbowls where we lost bc of a very good pass rush u could say
