[Shams] Free agent forward Jeremy Sochan plans to sign with the New York Knicks after he clears waivers, his agent Deirunas Visockas of Gersh Sports tells ESPN. Sochan had 10 interested suitors after being released from the Spurs on Thursday and landed on the Knicks as his new team.

  13. Props to the front office. I don’t expect a TON from Sochen and that’s fine. I think Brown can get the best attributes out of him with what we currently have. I wanted both him and Alvarado so I’m fucking thrilled. We have great depth.

  21. Good 1-on-1 defender. Solid team defender. Enforcer personality type which is always good to have. Poor 3PT shooter though and not a creator offensively. Basically a spot-minutes guy off the bench that will defend the opposing team’s best wing player and give you some points off of put-backs and easy lobs, but don’t expect much more from him outside of that. Solid pickup though, especially for free.

    I fucking love Jeremy, dude. Dude will put hands on someone with the quickness.

    Yeah his shot isn’t there yet, but he’s 22 and has put in the work to improve his FT drastically. He just needs time and some TLC. Dude will make the smart pass and play his ass off on defense. Unfortunately the Spurs got too good too fast and couldn’t afford to give him minutes to develop. Plus Carter just fits our offense better.

    Dude tackled a Morris twin to the floor mid game as a rookie.

  31. If it was 5-6 years ago, these dudes would not even give us a look if they had other suitors. Times are changing boys.

    Also, people calling Sochan a point forward are wrong. The dude barely has any offensive game. He’s a wing defender and can catch occasional lobs or short bunnies. That’s it.

  33. I like the pickup. I thought he had lots of potential when the Spurs were trying him out at point forward.

    That didn’t work out long term, but I do think he can be a player with value for us. He’s a gritty, very good on ball defender. He gets in people’s heads. He’s a non shooter.

    I was shocked the Spurs outright released him. He had fallen out of favor there largely because he didn’t fit with the guys they have now. Could not play mostly because more than anything, they needed a shooter to pair with Harper/Fox/Castle/Wemby.

    I wouldn’t expect him to play big minutes or anything, but he can certainly be a valuable player for us, and I think he has some untapped upside.

  36. Spurs fan here – a lot of people wrote Sochan off because he can’t shoot, but he is a great cutter / scorer around the rim. Hes also a team player and will do whatever the coaching staff wants him to. Gonna miss him 😢

  37. We’ve been needing a wing off the bench like this for so god damn long. This is a huge signing. We are now like 12 men deep come the playoffs.

    Our second unit is literally a nightmare defensively, Alvarado, McBride, Diawara, Sochan and Mitch. But I assume Sochan is only going to be out there when KAT is since he can’t space the floor too well.

  42. As a die hard Spurs fan, Knicks have always been my Eastern Conference team (I grew up there). I’m so sad to see our Polish Prince go, but I’m happy he’s going to land where he’ll find a good fit. My heart is conflicted 😭.
    Sochan’s got that dog in him for sure, he irritates other teams and trash talks in a way that just endears him to his fans.

  45. Think it’s safe to say at this point that Leon is the best exec the Knicks have had. I love everything about how this roster has been constructed.
