[Matheson] José Berríos apologized today and has apologized to his teammates for how 2025 ended. He says that he chose to go home to rehab in Puerto Rico and be with his family there, but owned that today, calling it a “mistake” and a “bad decision”.

  1. Good on him, hope we can finally move on from the narrative that he’s unhappy, and let La Makina cook.

  2. That’s it, that’s all that needs to be said. Water under the bridge for everyone.

Now go out there, put in the work and do your best.

  3. I appreciate the honesty and accountability here… Admitting that you made a mistake and vowing to do better are signs of a healthy emotional intelligence, and I hope that everyone can move on from this non-story now.

  4. What exactly even happened? He was injured but healed up late playoffs but chose not to play? I don’t even understand what the drama is/was. Either way, idc. If the team has unity, idc about the past.

  5. Little accountability in here boys, let’s get some accountability going here now

Dudes been a rock his whole time here. Tough spot and tough decisions were made. If he comes ready to go and is locked in then let’s go

  6. Good for Berrios on owning this and not making excuses for a bad decision, happy to welcome him back with open arms!

  7. Jose is a good guy and always has played hard for the Jays. Nothing to hold against him.

  8. I can hardly blame him. He’s been their main pitcher for yrs. Pitched great in post season. And then basically gets benched for a rookie and another guy whose been on the team for a mth. That’d piss me off too.

Yeah, it’s the playoffs and people gotta man up and accept what they need to do for the team. But people are still human, not robots.

Anyway. I get why he kind of got pissed and checked out. He’s apologized. Sounds like he still hopefully wants to be here. So hopefully he can get back into game mode and hopefully he still considers himself a full Blue Jay. And can help us run it back. – cause we’re gonna need him.

  9. GOOD VIBES ONLY!

Seriously though. Good on Jose. He will inevitably play a big part in this teams success

  10. Come out throwing 95 again with that nasty slurve and you could have cussed out the entire organization and I wouldn’t have cared. Go shove

  11. Good for him for owning it. Now go pitch like he can and no one will even remember it happened.

  12. Hopefully this is the last time we talk about this and can move on and get excited for what should be a very promising season.

  13. TIL he left and today I don’t actually care just lock it in and let’s fucking go boys

  14. The way he reacted is not ideal but I get it. I think people forget that he was our opening starter and considered our “ace” not too long ago

  15. Okay apology accepted everyone move on. I hope he has a bounce back. I know he has a few stinkers here and there (a few more than usual last year) but they need workhorse Berrios this year.

  16. It wasnt big enough of an issue that he needed to be away from the team

But big enough that he had to apologize to the team

    Vamos, let’s all move on

  17. Hopefully he uses this as motivation to be healthy, then he won’t be an after thought about being an option in the playoffs.

Wish him well he seems like a good dude

  18. Good. Continue being the innings eater you have always been and hopefully we make it back with Berrios at his best!

    Lets go Blue Jays.

  19. I feel like this just shows how passionate Jose is. That he was so upset he couldn’t perform last year that he didn’t want to be around teammates hanging his head. I know this looks like he quit on his teammates but some athletes just have this expectation to play in the big moments and get emotional if it’s derailed. Watch for him to have a big year this season

  20. Really shows his character, so many athletes (and people in general) have no idea what accountability is and that apologizing is even a thing.

Good man and stand up guy owning up to it, I respect that alot. 👏

  21. I get why he would have been pissed. Happy to have him back. Need him kicking ass this season.
