DEVELOPING: TWO Keys could UNLOCK the Giants’ Season | Eldridge in Outfield, Birdsong as Closer

Top prospect Bryce Eldridge taking reps in the outfield? It’s not just a Spring Training experiment anymore — it might be part of the San Francisco Giants plan. On today’s Locked On Giants, we break down why manager Tony Vitello has Eldridge shagging fly balls, how positional versatility could fast-track his Opening Day roster chances, and what this says about the team’s evolving lineup after adding Luis Arráez and Rafael Devers. Plus, Vitello shares early camp insights, young pitchers start turning heads, and we touch on the growing lockout chatter around MLB. If Eldridge’s role is changing, it could reshape the Giants’ entire roster conversation heading into 2026.

  1. Soooo we’re saying an MLB proven hitter like Ramos should be worried about the haymaker swinging one tool prospect? Hmm. Well I hope not. We keep saying Eldridge can really hit. Problem… he hasn’t done it yet. Ramos has and produced 2 good/decent offensive seasons. This is the problem with drafting a one tool guy. He’s too young to be Schwarber and that’s essentially what he is.

  2. I think it's good they're sending a message to
Ramos. Yes, his hitting has been decent but he's a terrible base runner and a terrible fielder. No reason Bryce can't fill in here and there just like Brandon Belt used to do.

  3. I think Giants management would like Eldridge to spend more time in the minors. Learning a new position, improving your defense at 1st base and becoming a better hitter (less strikeouts and improve hitting off speed pitches). I don’t rushing him to the majors at 21 makes sense unless he think he will be successful.

  4. Eldridge shagged flyballs for twenty minutes. He is not "starting off" in left field. Ramos is a much more proven hitter at this point. Eldridge is not ready for the bigs yet. He's a one tool hitter and he needs way more reps in the minors. This 😢 is just hype because nothing is happening yet.

  5. Eldridge as the Giants' left fielder is as realistic as Koufax and Marichal going at it one last time. He is a first base-DH guy. Ramos is one of the team's core despite the shaky defense.

  6. I think all of this only proves that the Giants are HIGHLY disorganized and dysfunctional. They have no foresight and are panicking like a drowning person. This will not end well.

  7. I just want to say that I really like our team. We’re not really World Series material, and it’s highly possible we top out at 85 wins, but the actual players on our team are just going to be really fun. Basically, I’m expecting us to be mid, but I’m also going to love watching every second.
