The Raiders are hiring Mike McCoy as assistant head coach, per sources.

  1. McCoy did a very good job with the Titans this season after taking over as interim head coach considering the awful roster he worked with. Made them competitive.

McCoy also had two 9-7 seasons with the Chargers once as head coach, so in this role, he brings a lot of experience behind Klint.

  2. I really don’t mind it since he isn’t a coordinator. They had a year of overlap in Denver in 2017.

  3. As long as we don’t get three other advisers in the room like AP had. Too many cooks and all that

  4. Essential that the entire building and fanbase show patience with Klint so he has time to grow as a head coach. This type of hire makes a lot of sense as Klint steps into this new role. I like it.

  5. Good senior type of hire that’s not gonna step on toes. They probably have a good relationship and that guys seen a lot

  6. McCoy was former quarterback in college, the NFL, & the CFL. He has been coaching in the league since 2000 & brings a level of experienced offensive expertise. Bringing him onto the staff as the assistant head coach is a good move. A second set of eyes is always a positive. He also worked with Klint Kubiak in Denver in 2017, so the relationship is there.

    His official job titles include:

Carolina Panthers: Offensive assistant (2000), Wide receivers coach (2001), Offensive assistant (2002–2005), Quarterbacks coach (2006), Passing game coordinator & quarterbacks coach (2007–2008)

Denver Broncos: Offensive coordinator & quarterbacks coach (2009), Offensive coordinator (2010–2012)

    San Diego Chargers: Headcoach (2013–2016)

    Denver Broncos: Offensive coordinator (2017)

    Arizona Cardinals: Offensive coordinator (2018)

    Jacksonville Jaguars: Quarterbacks coach (2022–2024)

Tennessee Titans: Senior offensive assistant & Interim head coach (2025)

  7. We just need coaches with experience for these asst positions. The DC and OL hirings are the most important.

  8. Kind of like how McVay brought in Wade Phillips to be his assistant HC/defensive coordinator his first year with the Rams.

When you have no head coaching experience, and you’re smart enough to know what you don’t know, you bring in a former head coach to basically be your personal head coach “coach”.

  9. Mike Macdonald brought Leslie Frazier in as his old head advisor, I bet he told Kubiak to do something similar.

  10. Not like I have any strong opinion either way, but no idea how anyone could be mad at this lol

  11. I will credit the man for utilizing Pollard in the run game more efficiently than Callahan, but at the same time that was two 1st rounders, and a 20 million year LT to round out those sharp “edges.”

    QB development:

He did hand the reins to Ward after Ward got pissed off on his play-call, so I don’t really know if I could credit this man on much, let a lone on any of Ward’s growth. The Titans are in the mud, I don’t really appreciate this call from front office or know how they justify this choice…If they are looking for a 1OA QB, this certainly isn’t the choice as assistant QB coach, and he literally just had one and didn’t win the job.
