[Rapoport] The Patriots are moving defensive coordinator Terrell Williams to a high-ranking role on the staff with Williams now cancer-free. They’ve opened up the DC position, with ILBs coach Zak Kuhr, who called plays during the Super Bowl run, a top candidate.

  1. Is not officially hiring Kuhr probably just a Rooney rule thing, or does this tell us they may actually look at outside candidates?

  2. Interesting. I wonder what that role is considering he left Detroit to get the chance at being a play calling DC.

  3. Yeah, this will be a really tough decision. I wonder if Kuhr will get the job /s

Good on the team for taking care of Williams and not just firing him. This sounds like a happy ending for all involved

  4. This was the right thing to do. Williams should still be around in an advisory role but Kuhr deserves the full time job.

  5. This was actually one of my big concerns going into next season and I’m glad to see it’s been resolved quickly. Things could have gotten messy.

  6. I think this is a good move by the organization. Williams did nothing to lose the job but after the season Kuhr had, there’s no reason he shouldn’t be a DC somewhere. If we can make him the DC here, that’s even better. And still having Williams around is great because he’s a great football mind.

  7. I feel bad for Williams, gets a crack at DC and assistant head coach then gets fucking cancer. Beats it, just to have his replacement do so well they want him as DC moving forward instead.

Don’t get me wrong, great move by the organization, I just wish Williams nothing but the best and I hope this role is what he wants.

  8. I really hope they’re not shafting Williams and that his position is meaningful. Imagine losing out on a huge job just because you had to get cancer and leave for a year.

  9. I just want to know who’s going to be coaching our offensive line. That being said, Zak Kuhr has absolutely earned his shot, would love to see the defense continue to get better.

  10. Glad they got it figured out. That was a sticky situation. Kuhr clearly deserves the shot at DC but I couldn’t imagine letting go of a cancer survivor lol.
Hopefully he’ll be happy in his new role.

  11. They talked about this on the Patriots Catch 22 podcast. Seems like the best solution to retain both Williams and Kuhr.

  12. I would be shocked if Kuhr doesn’t get it- can’t have any complaints about the defense particularly in the latter part of the season

  13. Glad this got ironed out in this way.

Kuhr deserves it, he had a helluva year as playcaller, and got better as the season wore on.

  14. So happy to hear this being resolved so quickly. Honestly, this is exactly what I had hoped for. Wins all around.

  15. I am glad they are going to keep both guys on staff instead of getting rid of them. It is much better for the organization to keep these types of dudes around

  16. They will have to hire an ILB coach. I wouldn’t be surprise if Vrabel give the job to his buddy, the former Giants DC, Shane Bowen.

  17. I mean, Kuhr turned in a tremendous performance this season, this is a no-brainer. It’s not fair, but it’s hard to rely on Williams going forward with all his health concerns, and you have a young interim DC that showed he was an absolute stud, you need to keep continuity.

  18. Happy that both hopefully get to stick around.

So is the consensus that we open the season Thursday night against the Seahawks? : ((
