I saw #STLCards trending on you know where, at the same time as Baseball Prospectus' email popped up.
Well, that's the projection.
If you want, or accept, both the idea of, and the need for, a full rebuild, there you are.
Last in the NL Central by a comfortable margin and tied for second last in the NL with the Nats.
Miklasz discusses on his show (YouTube); on the other site, he noted this would be the team's worst record since the start of the expansion era.

100 losses or bust!
The point of a rebuild is not instant gratification
I have accepted our fate and will try this season to understand the rebuild phase, not get too emotional, support new and upcoming players to the best of my ability.
My name is Anthony and I am an alcoholic.
I personally accept the need for a full rebuild, and based on what we have left in the cupboard after the trades, don’t think PECOTA is likely to be far off the mark. Perhaps this will also show reality to fans who two years ago said “Look, winning record” while ignoring that our Pythag was well to the negative.
Now, question 2: What does attendance look like, and how does the team deal? Mikolas Bobblehead Day when the Nats are in town?
I would take the over, but also would not at all be surprised w/ last place.
I’ll just pretend it’s 1995 again. Gonna ditch work to ride my bike down to the park.
Yes, this is the direction they have to go in. I’m just ready to watch baseball again.
69 wins. Nice
Would you rather:
Scenario A:
– 66 wins in 2026
– 80 wins in 2027
– 90 wins in 2028
– 97 wins in 2029
Scenario B:
– 80 wins in 2026
– 79 wins in 2027
– 81 wins in 2028
– 83 wins in 2029
Middling garbage isn’t working so a new group is fixing it. It’s so absurd to complain about the short term future that has a clear direction after the last 5 years. Blows my mind.
I’m calling 80 wins
70-75
Its year one of a rebuild bro. Calm down.
Yes
I am ready for a rebuild year, if that is what you are asking.
Saturn has come around again and the Cardinals will finish below the Pirates. I’m already mentally prepared for this.
75-87 more like. And I’d rather have a losing season or 2 now and develop some guys so we can have consistent winning seasons 3+ years from now…
Give em a nice big shit burger to eat.
Yes
Yes. I’m glad we ripped the band aid off.
We’ll break 70 wings, but I would much rather have this outcome and young players get all the chances to prove themselves than kind of hang around wild card contention and be disappointed. The starting pitching is likely going to be pretty bad and it may take awhile for some of the young players to get going.
Nothing between 65-75 would surprise me. Doubt they lose 100, but could happen with bad luck. Doubt they win 80, but could happen if some unexpected breakouts happen.
I suppose I’m ready to start fresh if ownership is willing to spend when the time comes, which honestly is not guaranteed.
I guess the Rockies don’t count in your book.
Yes. I’m more interested and excited for this season than I have been in years
As long as every game I physically go to, they win.
Yes. Yes I am

I mean…expectations are set. Give the kids a chance to play. Could surprise us but any ceiling to me is 70 wins. 75 if they get lucky.
Hey! We still have a .2% chance of making the playoffs! I’m hopeful
As long as we don’t lost 100 I’m down for whatever. I wouldn’t be shocked if we finished in 4th again.
Hey, apparently 69 is the worst we’ve ever done, so Chip has to be ecstatic about this chance.
That’s fine. It’s a rebuild. I know what to expect. What I do hope we see is a decrease in upper level ticket prices and/or more deals to help the next generation of fans see the games more cheaply
Yes. I’m surprised at how many people seem cool with a ceiling of mid-80’s wins and a “just hope to get in” playoff strategy like the Cardinals have had in 6 out of the last 9 seasons (excluding the COVID shortened year). The Cardinals have not been a legit WS threat aside from 2022. If you want to throw 2019 in there, sure, but even when they made the NLCS it felt like they were punching above their weight. And seeing as they never held a SINGLE lead in that series, that proved to be true.
The Cardinals, similar to the Steelers in the NFL, are victims of their own success. Not good enough to win it all, but good enough to be relevant, and unfortunately not bad enough to be at the top of the draft.
These teams have floated in first round playoff exit purgatory for the past ten years or so and it’s tiresome.
For the Cardinals to come out on the other side, something had to change. They couldn’t keep duct taping a flawed roster and a middling rotation devoid of stars.
I don’t know if this will work out, but it’s worth the try. The alternative clearly wasn’t working either.
