Mike Tomlin (On Analytics)
“You can take analytics to baseball and things like that, but football is always going to be football. I got a lot of respect for analytics and numbers, but I’m not going to make judgments based on those numbers. The game is the game. It’s an emotional one played by emotional and driven men. That’s an element of the game you can’t measure. Often times decisions such as that weigh heavily in the equation.”

Mike McCarthy (On Analytics):
“It’s a big part of my coaching…I smile when I say analytics because it really is the foundation of how I look at a lot of things and it’s helped me develop a check and balance system, you know, protocol of how you assess the game, organization, workload capacity, efficiency, all of those things. Analytics is a great asset.”

Mike McCarthy (On AI)
“It’s exciting what’s going on with AI. We have some opportunities to look into that a little deeper. If it helps, you definitely want to look at it, but there’s always the education of these things, but how do you apply it to the game in real time? That’s really always the challenge.”

Pittsburgh Steelers HC Mike McCarthy upgrades over HC Mike Tomlin:
– Embracing Analytics
– Offensive Focus
– QB Development

  1. Honestly Tomlin should have been fired after his 12th season as head coach. It would be about 10 years since his last time taking the Steelers to the Super Bowl. As we saw almost the same results from year 13th – 19th. No growth, Tomlin peaked and couldn't take the team to the next level.

  2. He is a breath of fresh air. Word salad is gone. Offensive knowledge is definitely a plus now. The players love Tomlin because Tomlin wasn't one for holding players accountable. WEAK

  3. Good video. I never knew that Tomlin and Austin didn't believe in a nose tackle. Is that why we didn't resign Javon Hargrave? I agree I think we are better at offense and defense with the new coordinators and coaches. Our D was paper mache on 3rd down and in big situations. We struggled stopping the run most of the year. Our offense was too predictable and conservative. It was only dynamic when Aaron Rodgers would read the defense and change plays. Hopefully the new offensive coordinators can better use spacing and routes to get guys open.

  4. I agree wtih you on Tomlin being one of the best Leader and Culture Builders in NFL history, and one of the reasons I was NEVER a fan of getting rid of him. However, at the same time, I feel like despite being a Pittsburgh guy the culture he built over the years didn't always feel like the Pittsburgh I had known for so long with Cowher and his early years. I'm not criticizing, and it wasn't a bad thing necessarily, but I feel like McCarthy might bring back some of those elements that I missed about those years. It doesn't have to be Defense and 3 yards and a cloud of dust and I'm fully expecting a more offense focused, West Coast team. However, I feel like he will bring a little "extra Pittsburgh" than Tomlin (again no shade at Tomlin), given that he grew up here and grew up watching the Steelers as a kid. And if nothing else, that's great for the fans. Like Rooney said, this isn't America's team, this is Pittsburgh's team.

  5. SMASH THAT LIKE BUTTON!!!!

Love the content Jack, always keeping the team relevant, even in the slow offseason! God bless you and Cass! 🦾💪🦾💪

  6. mccarthy calls the off plays so unlike tomlin he wont blame the off coordinator for poor off performance every 2-3 yrs and fire him

  7. We don't know yet!!! He hasn't coached a game for the Steelers yet! Because if he is anything like he was with Dallas, the answer is NO! Yinzers have no idea how good a HC Tomlin actually was! Tomlin's only fault is he didn't hire good OCs.

  8. No matter what we need to go back to the old conditioning ways. Steelers weren't always the best team but they won because of their conditioning and can outperform in the 4th quarter. When others ran out of gas. Truly wish they would have brought Harrison in as the new conditioning coach.
