New information adds context to Cavs trade for James Harden — Terry Pluto

  1. They just don’t know about the Clippers medical team. They think they came up but come April they will see they got played.

  2. This is a homer cavs piece. Both teams felt like they traded their respective player when their value was as high as it was going to be in order to get the maximum return. Fact of the matter for the Clippers is that the potential that Garland gets back to 100% is worth trading the rest of this season of Harden for. That’s it and that’s all.

Cavs are going to be in love with Harden because he’s a great teammate and it’s fun as hell to watch him go sicko mode for your team, but come playoffs their going to be cursing and wondering where he went when they needed him most.

It also might work for them, though, if Mitchell and the bigs can carry the clutch load for the playoffs.

  3. tbh zero percent chance both Cavs and Clippers side didn’t already know the extent of Garland’s injuries beforehand, especially since the trade went through.

  4. Honestly I do think there is some truth to this. The Cavs need Mitchell to sign an extension this summer. Garland has had some setbacks in his recovery that make his availability for a long playoff run this year pretty questionable. This led to a desperation move by the Cavs.

  5. Clippers need to be very careful with Garland’s injury, moving forward if they were to return him too fast and he did serious damage to one of those toes that could potentially hurt him for a while. Hopefully we can keep playing at a high level without him for the next month or two and he’ll be ready to jump in at the end of the season before the play in
