UPDATE: New Orleans Saints’ Derek Carr Trade Gets New Details As Carr Lists Conditions For Return

New Orleans Saints’ potential Derek Carr trade gets unretirement conditions—full health and a chance at a Super Bowl. The criteria raise the stakes for NFL teams searching for experienced quarterbacks, while simultaneously limiting his realistic landing spots. The New Orleans Saints, who hold Carr’s playing rights, could get valuable draft capital if their former starter signs with another contender, but only a handful of teams meet his high bar.

Minnesota Vikings, Indianapolis Colts, and Pittsburgh Steelers stand out as possible fits, each dealing with uncertain quarterback futures and playoff aspirations.

  1. Not sure why NO fans are so emotional about everything especially Carr. Carr in the right situation will do well. Realistically, Saints had no chance with or without Carr and was always in rebuilding phase. Carr’s stats when played > all saints QB since he left

  2. Actually I think carr could run the Colts & Vikings offense better than Jones & jj ….the Colts have a great oline , they pay there receivers & have a good draft & carr with the Colts would be a contender

  3. With what Derek did for the Saints salary cap by retiring, the Saints should be willing to do whatever they can to help him owning his playing rights. Even if that means excepting just a box of moon Pies in return. Derek might be able to find what he is looking for as a backup. I hope it works out for him! He did the Saints a solid at the end.

  4. The vikings, the Steelers and the colts would all give him a chance to compete and he is their Best option.
It's obvious he isnt expecting to sign with the seahawks, he's simply saying he wouldnt come back to be a bridge qb to teams like the Jets and cards

  5. Steelers, Vikings, Falcons, Commanders and a couple of maybes like the Ravens depending on what happens with Jackson. Bengals if Burrows has had enough. All these teams have a legit shot at the playoffs.

  6. Two other teams to consider. Vegas may be interested to have Carr start the season before Medoza is ready (similar to Shough/Rattler). And as much as we wouldn't want to see it, Atlanta may be a landing spot, especially if they release Cousins and are still not sure about Pennix.

  7. It doesn’t matter who anyone thinks of as a potential Super Bowl participant other than Carr and my guess is his list is longer than 1-3 teams. If you get anything for him in terms of draft picks or cap relief then it’s a win for the saints.

  8. Derek Carr – what a shmo. I wanted to believe in this guy so bad. He had olave/shaheed/kamara and could not get it done. I would love to see him as a divisional opponent for sure.

  9. Before Carr did the Saints a favor and retired, finding out what the nature of his injuries was like solving a mystery. The one big revelation was that he had a DEGENERATIVE rotator cuff condition that surgery could not restore. Does anyone know if he ever had any surgery in the past year and how "healthy" he believes he can get by rehabilitation? The news accounts nibble around the edges but no one seems able to get to the meat in the middle. Good commentary on the "what ifs" but it just seems Derek is indeed being coy to keep the story alive.

  10. I dont saying things like this about people because it feels like an indictment on the person, but are we not gonna discuss that Carr has been to two teams who couldn't make it over the hump and ended up leaving? He's not a bad QB but I think its obvious that hes not a QB that you'll win because of. And no team wins in the post season with a QB thats 'just good enough'.

  11. He would have to accept a pay cut. Nobody will pay him what the Saints were stupid enough to do. The reminder of his NFL career would be as a backup having to earn a starting spot again, which wouldn't likely happen at this point. He would have to come to terms with that.

  12. I have a feeling if he does actually un-retire he will join the Chiefs…Mahomes likely won't be ready week 1 and the Chiefs are definitely still super bowl contenders…he's a step up from the jock-strap king and would serve as a decent backup once Patty returns….i'm actually a bit shocked this scenerio wasn't mentioned in your video…thoughts? am i way-off and/or missing something here?
