Pirates spring training: Everyone is talking about Marcell Ozuna

Post-Gazette Pirates insiders Jason Mackey and Colin Beazley react to GM Ben Cherington and manager Don Kelly speaking at Grapefruit League media day. This show is presented by FanDuel.

What did the Pirates say about Marcell Ozuna? Is there still a place for Andrew McCutchen? What does Ozuna’s signing mean for the lineup and defense? Are the Pirates done adding to this team? How does Joey Bart fit into the 2026 roster? Will he be traded? Are the Pirates looking to make a trade or sign a free agent? Our duo tackles those questions and more.

  1. I can't get this out of my head. Could someone please ask Don Kelly and Spencer if Spencer could get some work at 3b. With PNC's left field, would live to see Magnum get most of the reps out there. We do need Spencer, and the big three brought in, in the lineup everyday (especially against righties). We have added the thunder, but it would be fun to see the lightning with Cruz, Magnum, and hopefully, sooner than later, Griffin running the bases.
Spencer is a baller, i'm sure he could play a solid 3b.

  2. Its pathetic our fan base wants Andrew McCutheon to be our yearly Welfare case. People really have selective memory on how "Great" he was here. They've built him up like he was Barry Bonds. Come on, folks!

  3. OZUNA being a good clubhouse guy is just the cherry on top, hope he has a positive situation mentoring O ' Neill Cruz . Even a decent season out of Ozuna will be great. Love Andrew Mc Cutcheon but we need to move on or like you say ,maybe pick him up in June or July to let him playout the season with the Bucs !!!

  4. Pirates literally need a 3b/ss. As built, gonzo and triolo would need to absorb every inning of every game. A warm body is literally needed even if he is a bench guy.

  5. I can't see Cutch just hanging up his cleats. He'll sign someplace where he has been before, such as Philly or Milwaukee. He'll play one year, retire, and that gives Cutch and the Pirates a full year to mend the fences and bring him back in some capacity, but not as a player.
