Guy with most expensive defense and mid performance doesn’t have a new job? I’m shocked. Nobody in the league wants to poach our guys because they aren’t good.
Neither the Steelers Offensive nor Defensive Coordinators for the last 2 seasons are working in the NFL. (Arthur Smith hired by Ohio State after a couple of OC interviews.)
That is concerning.
Get over it
Seems like a lot of them took lower positions. Maybe he wasn’t willing to.
Biggest surprise to me is still Pat Meyer getting a head Oline job.
Teryl Austin didn’t call the plays or involve himself AT ALL for the defense. We all know that Tomlin was the de facto defensive coordinator since 2022 and just wanted feedback on the plays and schemes to the tunes of “Looks good to me.” Austin was there to just stand on the sidelines and look good for the cameras. If Tomlin didn’t resign, the next defensive coordinator under him would have had the same fate, defensive coordinator in name only.
Teryl Austin will probably retire or take a college gig at this point.
I guess teams don’t prefer giving up backbreaking 95-yard drives at the worst possible moment, nor allowing 300 rushing yards in a game.
He took the most expensive defense in the league and made them the 7th worst in total yards allowed and 4th worst in passing yards allowed. Granted we were 16th in points allowed so thats middle of the pack but basically the expectations is if you give him a less expensive defense he’ll do WORSE.
He can go play golf on Sundays with Matt Canada
Well, the mystery of why Tomlin never fired Austin now can be explained.
Tomlin knew he was leaving and wasn’t going to recruit someone to be fired knowing he planned to step down.

Sounds about right
Makes sense. Tomlin kinda was carrying that defense
That checks out
Oh no anyways
Do you think it could be related to his job performance?
Yeah because he’s really bad

That tracks.
Not surprised.
