First off, he is only the passing game coordinator. McDaniel will be calling plays so no worries there. He’s had 2 stints as head coach, he had a playoff appearance and a 23-25 record with the Dolphins. That isn’t terrible at all. The Jets have had 6 different head coaches since their last playoff win. That is an organizational issue. And are we forgetting he led the Broncos to the best offense in NFL HISTORY as offensive coordinator in 2013??? McDaniel is the head coach of the offense and I trust anybody he brings in on his staff.

  1. People know him for the memes, no one remembers how much praise he got as a great analytical football mind aka the reason he got 2 NFL HC opportunities, it’s unforunate.

I wish people could wrap their heads around the idea that not every terrible HC is an idiot.

  2. Bad head coaches often (always?) were good coordinators to earn themselves the head coaching opportunity, and he isn’t even the oc. Non issue

  3. If I’m not mistaken, he has the same position with us as he did when Peyton Manning had his historic 2015 season. I’m not upset one bit 🤷🏽‍♂️

  4. He’s not even the passing game coordinator. He’s listed as passing “specialist”.

    He’s basically a consultant.

  5. Oh for sure. Because if there’s one thing that translates well to 2026, it’s an offensive scheme designed for a guy who literally called his own plays and won MVPs before Gase even knew how to use a headset. Truly Gase was the mastermind there.

  6. Some minds are made for certain positions. Staley is intelligent and proven to be a good defensive mind but nowhere near as an HC. Similarly can be said with Adam Gase.

  7. it was over-hated on considering every Redditor/Arm Chair GM on here thought they knew whats good and bad for the team. Let it play out. He’s not going to have a significant role with us, and its probably him penetrating back into coaching with so much time off. Has Harbaugh to learn under and McDaniels as well. Im not excited for the hire but also not disappointed about it. Just another person on the staff that will do his job well and probably be out of here next season onto the next thing.

  8. I am also a Bears fan (grew up in Chicago). Gase was a bad OC for the bears too. They were pretty brutal that year and he got credit for Peyton and Cutler when he didn’t really do much positive.

  9. I don’t have any issues with people hating the move from a futures perspective. What the fans wanted was an understudy but instead got Adam Gase. The way I think about it is this way, McDaniel had two options; 1.) get an an heir apparent for the future or 2.) get someone that checks his blind spots.
To dumb it down, **Mike McDaniel is Michael Jackson and Adam Gase is Quincy Jones.** You don’t want to hear an album sang by Quincy Jones but you’re sure as fuck going to want to hear one produced by him. I feel very confident in this upcoming season if we can get the IOL squared away. I honestly believe in this run scheme, it’s going to be a far easier fix than with Greg Roman.

  10. Are you trying to manufacture bullshit for bullshits sake? I think this regime has done plenty to earn my benefit of any doubt until proven otherwise.

  11. It’s a fair move to question. After a truly awful stint with the Jets, he’s since been out of the league. So, one has to wonder what/why. Although, from my perspective, even really bad HCs usually wind up somewhere in the league if they want to. Just from our own team, McCoy, Lynn and Staley all found jobs. So, I have to wonder if this was a personal choice to stay out of coaching for awhile.

We also don’t really understand his role exactly. So, I have a hard time getting worked up about it. It seems like he’s going to be spending his time analyzing tape, which he seems to be good at.

  12. Anyone who successfully evolves into an NFL head coach has, by definition, survived a series of highly improbable events, several committee meetings, and at least one PowerPoint presentation of existential importance.

One can only hope the hiring was based on those particular survival skills, rather than, say, a clerical error in the space-time continuum or a very confident handshake.

  13. Whatever else you think of him, he’s easily the most accomplished pass game specialist in the league right now

  14. Not great head coach obviously, but had some great offenses with the Broncos. I think him being able to focus just on the passing game with McDaniel taking lead will be a benefit. Dude’s just here to provide input on passing plays/schemes and will be making zero game decisions.

  15. The elephant in the room is why didn’t he have a job for 5 years then? I’m all for glass half full thinking but if the league valued that Broncos season as much as it’s getting talked about now he wouldn’t have been unemployed for half a decade.

  16. No need to judge good or bad prior to the season. Opinion doesn’t matter, only how it pans out matters.
