Let’s get it
NO NO NO
Just turned 32, has 5 more years on his deal at over 6 ml/year and is minus 32 this season. +/- is obviously flawed and more of a team stat as he used to have +29 and +40 seasons with Fla. But still a buyer beware.
Reaves, Goodrow, Sherwood, Toffoli, Wennberg. Got enough age 30+ players on the roster.
I like the player, but not the timing. If he was two years younger or the Sharks were 2 years further along, it'd make more sense. That said, it probably makes more sense than the Sherwood trade did.
Its harder to draft and develop players when you give up the picks you need to draft them.
The Sharks have left more than an entire draft's worth of value on the table just between getting Sherwood, not moving Wennberg and not moving Klingberg when he was worth something. For a GM who is really good at drafting.
NO MORE TRADING FOR GUYS IN THEIR 30s!!!!!!
you know I really like this channel, but I’m a bit saddened that this is the best yall can do. Time and again it’s just “hey how can this guy that’s a decade older than our core help us get to the playoffs in a meaningless year? How many assets should they give up for this guy?”
It’s awful. If the sharks wanna trade for a decemt blue line role player that’s in his early 20s fine, that could be an interesting discussion. Not this though. They just gave up 2 seconds, which are still useful assets that they no longer have, on a guy in his late 20s that is ON A RENTAL! oh and he’s a forward, which as we know is one of the sharks biggest needs.
These are the moves that snowball into bigger issues regarding roster makeup down the road.
They need to be using every single asset they have to be getting young promising defenseman that will increase their odds to win a cup AT THE TIME WHEN THEY WILL HAVE THE GREATEST CHANCE TO WIN. not now, not next year. A few years from now. I believe it should be through the draft because I believe you pay a premium on young d men through trading, but even trades would be better than this slop about targeting guys at the end of their career right now when they are at best fighting for a WC spot.
Age is a concern… otherwise I think he would be great. I just wish we could find a younger version of him 😅
I honestly can’t wait till the sharks play again!! 🦈
Smits just played in the Olympics and looked good – he’s not three years away from the NHL.
Once you started talking about the possibility of buying out his contract, you sold me on not trading for him. If we might need to buy him out, this makes zero sense to me.
Why are all you speculators want to give up our youth for his on the wrong side of 30? Y'all seem so eager to do some dumb trade to mortgage our future for some good who isn't an impact player?
With how healthy he’s been and the consistency of his performance I think this is a great target and hope the rumors are true.
Too old. Perhaps 25 an under to fit in with the young core
I absolutely DISAGREE with these kinds of acquisitions. Also disagree that you can’t get young and talented Dman. Yes the price will be high but it’s literally the last piece in the puzzle. Why not then give up something more? For example Šimon Nemec has terrible situation in NJD. They don’t give him enough ice time and he has bad relationship with Keefe. He SCREAMS to be traded this offszn. Give NJD offer sheet and there you go with your young and promising Dman. Yes Weegar can fix the things for now but he’s 32 and I’m really afraid to trade our future assets for an old guy. Let’s use it smart not impulsive. Also not even mentioning that if guys like Hughes or Marner can be traded, why not player like Nemec?
A 32-year-old under a long-term contract. For a team whose SC window opens in 3 years. Seriously?
