TIME FOR CHANGES! Post-Game Fan Reaction: Oilers vs Sharks
Despite three point efforts from Connor McDavid and Evan Bouchard, the Edmonton Oilers inability to play defence led to their 5th loss in 6 games. Connor Ingram made 28 saves on 33 shots for the Oilers. Darnell Nurse remains unplayable. Play all the hits!!! #oilers #edmontonoilers #nhl

I was legit falling asleep watching this game. Even Jack said the Oilers are sleepy
How many Oilers tried shooting the puck at Ingram TODAY?
I laughed when Frederick shot the puck in a second time!
Christ! The guy has had such a brutal year… Just give him credit for 2!!
The alarming stat from this 3 game trip was that the Oilers scored 17 goals but yet somehow lost 2 of the 3 games and only have 2 points in the standings to show for. Teams that have solid Defence and decent goaltending typically win games when they score 4 or 5 goals. You can't out-score your problems the entire season. I'm thinking the Oilers may end up in a Wild Card spot if they can't put together a win streak in March
you can't really blame Ingram: screened, walman skates past his stick….so he has no stick… he made a lot of saves…. Bouch lot of pts/great… but even in this game a lot of errors & +/- is zero.
This is so obviously a COACHING problem…… poor structure… players not having a good sense of their role or proper posn…. what to do. Bring in some asst Coaches to lead.. men/energy…
Hello, I'm an Oilers fan from an alternate timeline. We traded Nurse after we won our 3rd Cup so I needed to find out what happened in this timeline.
I just looked into it and the difference between our timelines was that Holland was not available for the Oilers as he stayed with the Wings and so they went ahead with the plan to hire Bill Zito.
Wow. What happened there? Who's idea was it to get Holland? Was Katz pressuring Bobby Nicks for that or did Bobby think that was a smart idea?
Anyways, going back to my timeline, this timeline is depressing.
EditWHAT?! Bouchard wasn't on Team Canada and you lost to the US?!?!?
When your best player is Bouchard, thatâs a red flag. Everyone turned pucks over, including him, and that tunnel vision doesnât kill offense, it kills your defense and leads to big giveaways.
And ripping Nurse is pointless. His contract isnât movable. Heâs an asset you canât get rid of, so the only real option is to figure out how to use him properly and get him playing the way the team needs.
I am usually not a spector fan but his questions during the post game interviews were actually warranted for once. Someone has to start asking the difficult questions. No more excuses about we will clean it up next game. We need answers now.
Let's go Oilers, but that said… Come on, you can't leave alone Connor Ingram in the crease like that. Austin's take on this matter has been crystal clear. No excuses!
Defense can be coached, you canât coach offence. Playoff is different season, regular season brain fart will be minimized. TBH I donât give a f about regular season. As long as they can still score and squeak in, itâs all good. Home ice advantage is trash anyway, we do bad at home
Sounds like McDavid may have to make a choice between friendship with his buddy Nurse or winning a Stanley Cup.
Defensive quick sand !! we need a way out !!
I agree with you that Nurse playing defense is a nightmare but the combo problem is that you have Bouchard on the same D core! Yes he's in the top 10 in scoring the problem is he allows almost as many chances going the other way! I saw just the highlights of this game and I saw him scoring but I also saw Bouchard giving up 5 chances going the other way, and that's on the highlight package, I've watched some Bouchard games and I've seen double digits giveaways, when you have 20% of your salary cap dedicated to 2 Ds (which affects your depth) that give up scoring chances like they are candy, you simply cant have both and you need a D partner like Slavin so Bouchards mistakes can be covered, and therss not many of those around! McDavid pulled this team on his shoulders the last 2 playoffs and even he couldn't pull them over the hump
hockey depressed. no words. we are bad
For 2 or 3 years it was Skinner when the D was similar and also suspect fairly often. So you trade for Jarry, and have to sweeten the deal to get him, and the Pens are STILL laughing. The D get's worse, slower more disinterested, and lazy. That could be forgiven if you ignore the mental breakdowns that happen on a consistent basis. As for Bouchard, he scores, but he makes some real moronic plays as well, and I do like to look at +/- and even when he get's 3 points HE's STILL A 0 which means he was on for an opposing goals that basically cancelled his out, so spare me that he's great, prevent a goal or 2 and the Oilers would be better off. Then there are the forwards. Let a couple of younger, faster players go to offer sheets and then sign Mangiapagne? WTF. Sign Fredric to a retirement contract, now Jarry for to much and more time than Skinner had left, Ingram will have to be resigned after this season, and yet you still have Nurse, whom NOBODY will take at that cost, Bouchard who while he can score, is suspect on D. And who else? McDavid and Drai can't carry the trash every night. Even playing 21 minutes plus. But don't worry Knob's will bump that up to 25 + shortly.
Oilers D does not have any idea how to take the man. Opposing forwards skate into high danger spots as they see fit and we saw that in the Stanley cup finals last year and it is entirely why they lose. The Oilers have done nothing about it.
At least us sharks and oilers fans can be united over having a desperately inconsistent watching experience lol.
Almost like Bouchard needs to focus on defence instead of offence.
I have heard that Brown is doing well in Bakersfield , at least he has a edge to him and would not put up with guys standing around in front of our net.
Darnells sister would be helping us more on defence at this time.
If there IS any Change IT will bei a very short season đ i loved how the sharks plays the First 40 min
And were was the videoguy – wasnt the First Goal offside ?
Ingram was nice
Cat!!
But yeah I was at the game. Oilers were heavily relying on McDrai and Bouchard trying to outscore your defense not doing its job. Our (Sharks) defense is bad but Oilers just decided not ro play D I guess.
Nurse fighting non fighters… wow, what heart … give him 9 million…toughness is back… how's that working outđ. The anchor on a sinking ship. And Bouch's bad defensive play is only tolerated because of his offensive play.
