BREAKING: Oilers Land Connor Murphy | NHL Trade Reaction

The Edmonton Oilers acquire veteran defenseman Connor Murphy from the Chicago Blackhawks for a 2nd round pick — and Chicago is retaining 50% of his $4.4M cap hit.
Did the Oilers just win the trade deadline?
In this video, we break down:
Full NHL trade details
Why Edmonton targeted Murphy
What 50% salary retention means for their cap situation
Where he fits in the Oilers’ lineup
What this means for their Stanley Cup push
And whether Chicago got enough in return
Murphy brings size, shutdown ability, playoff-style physicality, and veteran experience to an Oilers blue line that’s been looking for stability. At half the cap hit, this could be one of the smartest value moves of the deadline.
But is it enough to push Edmonton over the top in the West?

  1. The Oilers will have just won the trade deadline with this. It's beneficial for everybody involved to make a long story short. EDM needs this sorely especially.

  2. From Frank Seravalli
Trade call is not expected to be formally completed until later tonight, but EDM and CHI have agreed upon:
    To LetsGoOilers:
    D Connor Murphy (50% retained)
    To Blackhawks:
    2028 EDM 2nd Round Pick

  3. From Jimmy Murphy
Multiple sources have confirmed to me that the Bruins are once again in on Canucks forwards Conor Garland and Brock Boeser ahead of Friday's NHL Trade Deadline.

  4. Weird I thought retained 50% Murphy would get more then a 2028 2nd rounder.
    Good for EDM though.
The odd thing is Gustaffson is on waivers from DET and he has 20 points in 22 games, think he will be picked up by someone , maybe the Leafs should take him to replace OEL when we trade him.

  5. PTI points out Oilers are getting a rested D-man that hasn't played extra games in playoffs like Edmontons defense. Hes going to make a difference! I have been critical of Edmonton, but this is the first positive thing they've done.

  6. Are they dumb why bring in an older guy bring in a younger bigger guy like schider he's reliable and big they need a bigger right d-man and he's cheap while rangers are mostly looking to move on from guy's
