The Dallas Stars won their ninth-straight game last night, setting a new franchise record, by beating the Vancouver Canucks 6-1 at Rogers Arena. Tonight, they will go for 10 consecutive victories as they face off with Calgary Flames at Scotiabank Saddledome (8 p.m. CT). Matt Duchene has led the way offensively during this win streak, scoring 13 points (8 goals, 5 assists). The Stars also boast the NHL’s 2nd best power play (30.3%) and they have scored power play goals in six consecutive games (7-for-19, 36.8%). The Flames had the worst start of any NHL through the first 18 games of the season (4-12-2, 10 pts., 0.278) and have never really recovered. They scratched and clawed to get to a 0.500 record on New Year’s Eve, but then had a rough January, posting a record of 4-8-2 (10 pts., 0.357) – putting them 12 points behind the second wild card spot in the Western Conference with 23 games remaining.
