Baseball fans will always picture Ken Griffey Jr. in a Seattle Mariners uniform. It’s easy to forget that nearly half of his career was played in a different uniform. Where did Junior and the Cincinnati Reds go wrong in their near-decade together?

arise spouse! joyous chartreuse ovalish sphere has formulated a new videograph!
In hindsight, Griffey really saved the Mariners by blocking that Mets trade. No one they were offering was half as good as Mike Cameron.
@10:15 Let's go O's!
You blames Griffey’s wrist injury that he sustained crashing into the wall on the kingdome turf? Interesting.
3:21, Thank goodness 😊
What do you mean your DAD'S "most hated Met ever"?
Ow, my back hurts….
As a Giants fan, we also hate Armando Benítez.
aww yes a mets fan self depricating themselves (they spend hundreds of millions every year) ahhh yessss, feel so bad // love you jolly
Jolly: With every year that passed, Ken Griffey Jr got a year older
Me, a lifelong baseball fan: 😲
I guess as a Cardinal fan I consider the year 2000 to be pretty special. Nobody knew who Albert Pujols was yet. But 2000 marked the year that for all intents and purposes kicked off the era of Cardinal success. The connection to the Reds is that both teams acquired superstar centerfielders prior to the season. Griffey to the Reds, and Edmonds to the Cardinals. Griffey was the more acclaimed player between the two, undoubtedly. But the Cardinals simply got out of the gate white hot with a power-packed offense. The Reds would come to St Louis for a July 4th week series, in which the Cardinals would solidify their position atop the NL Central for the 2000 season, with Edmonds slamming 2 homers on July 4th. At the end of the 1st half, Edmonds and McGwire hitting back to back each had 25+ homers and an OPS over 1.100. Perhaps on pace to be one of the most prolific back-to-back combos ever (Soto-Judge was pretty good in 2024). McGwire unfortunately missed most of the 2nd half with a knee injury that would ultimately end his career. But the Cardinals added Will Clark to buffer the loss of Big Mac, and cruised to 95 wins with an exciting mix of veterans (Edmonds, Clark, Matheny, Kile, Eric Davis, Shawon Dunston, Ray Lankford, etc) and young players (Renteria, JD Drew, Ankiel, Tatis, Placido Polanco etc). I suppose I am biased because 2000 was the first season I can remember watching as a young Cardinal fan. Still, to me it was a uniquely exciting team and very talented with a heartbreaking 5 game NLCS loss to the Mets.
Make a video on the ‘03 Tigers. An absolute disaster class of a team/season.
Go Pokey!
What an absolute bonehead move he made leaving Seattle!
The Mariners could've used him in 2000-2001 when they played the Yankees in the ALCS.
Some people are their own worst enemy.
He is the biggest what if. If he never got hurt he would have the HR record for sure.
The mariners producing more professional photographers than World Series wins is the real tragedy
I still can't believe Octavio Dotel died in a freak roof collapse. You just never know. RIP
I need a woman to look at me like Buhner looks at Jr.
He might be THE player I have FOMO over in my lifetime. And I’m someone who went to several Reds games in his era. I didn’t get Griffey being Griffey and that sucks. But I have grown a fondness for the Mariners despite only living in the Seattle area for about 6 months in 2017 (but I went to two games!)
Griffey's Reds tenure always reminded me of AROD's in Texas
2:51 RIP
When Ken Griffey Jr was with the Cincinnati Reds the Reds just got new ownership. This ownership did not have the team on the same level as the 1990s teams which includes a 1990s Word Series Championship & getting to the 1995 NLCS. The Reds ownership did not build a good team around Ken Griffey Jr. The Reds never got to the playoffs with Ken Griffey Jr. Ken Griffey Jr also got injured a lot when he entered his 30s which includes his time on the Reds. Even in the present day March 2026 the Reds have not won a playoffs series since 1995.
Week 121 asking for a Julio Franco video
The kid was such an amazing baseball player and Center fielder. I absolutely loved collecting his baseball cards as a kid. I've recently been trying to collect his cards again as my childhood set was sold or given away years ago
Random commercials, but still tie into the main topic at hand is truly a jolly olive specialty
He always looked p*** off the last couple of years in seattle. Grass is not always greener, but I understand why he left. Cincy was really his home, it was where his daddy made his name, and the Reds were much bigger baseball name back then than they are now. JR probably thought they could replicate the big red machine again. but the Reds were just were really bad. And even though his stats were stil pretty good, i don't remember many big hits or good plays when he was with the reds.
i'm a reds fan and i pretty regularly forget he played for the reds.
"How good was 1989-1999 Griffey?"
10 seasons: 70.7 War, 398 Homers, 149 OPS
This video is a masterpiece
Blessed enough to do some work in his home and man him and his family are the nicest people. What could have been without injuries man
Facials and Viagra comebacks. Is this an x-rated Jolly video?
T-Mobile doing the free MLB TV is the reason why I fell in love with Baseball during Covid.
