  1. That’s what happens when you have respect for other players and don’t have your head up your own ass.

  2. Game respects game. Look at Ohtani getting the Czech team autograph. When you are good you want to compete and build people up. When you are insecure you want to demean and tear people down.

  3. A lot of this is normal, but that dap at home plate was absolutely to poke fun at Cal. I’m all for clowning team USA at this point.

  4. I think that’s way more than respect to be honest. It’s baseball family stuff.

  5. Venezuela and the Dominican Republic have always been very close countries, and that’s reflected in the way both teams treat each other. It’s not playing against a rival, it’s playing against a brother.

  6. Song is WILLIS – I think I like when it rains.

    They’re great live as well

  7. This game is a battle (it’s not) and they are all warriors (they’re not) and thus you must hate your opponent (you don’t have to).

  8. That game last night was one of the most fun games I’ve watched in a long time. Extreme passion, extreme sportsmanship. Loved it.

  9. Cause this is what baseball is really about: HAVING FUN!!! Venezuela is one of our traditional rivals with Puerto Rico and we *respect* them! Even in the stands, I was chopping it up with a Venezuela fan and gave him my plantain as a sign of respect after our win.

    God, the WBC is beautiful

  10. Cal Raleigh in November: Beloved Catcher with funny nickname

Cal Reigh in March: Clowned Upon for being a Big Asshole

  11. I know Will Smith backed Cal up when Smith was asked what he thought, but I wonder if he’d shrug off Ohtani who is notoriously polite and respectful greeting the opposing team?

  12. almost thought the Venezuela cap was meant to go with the DR jersey for a minute, the colors fit pretty well

  13. I respect both mentalities.

I love seeing players showing respect and empathy for one another. The handshakes and goofing off are heartwarming.

I also love heated rivalries and competitors with that cold approach. They both have their place here

  14. Every other team is having a blast and USA doesn’t even know if the tournament started or not.

  15. Im Dominican. Born in the US. A while back, there was a pretty big fire in the mountains in the DR. My uncle said the first ones to show up was Venezuela with a gang of firefighters to help out the Dominicans. People don’t forget things like that.
