Update on Auston Matthews

  1. Not great but not worst case scenario. He should be ready for training camp.

  2. And nothing but a slap on the wrist for Gudas. Joke of a league. If this was a playoff year, we’d riot.

  3. Grade 3 is a complete tear of the ligament. The knee joint becomes unstable because the ligament can no longer hold the bones in place during side-to-side movement.

  4. Ugh I hate how this is how his season ends. A grade III tear is a fully torn MCL…. worse than the one Crosby sustained from the Gudas hit in the Olympics. I worry this will be career altering.

Edit: Leafs management needs to grow a spine and raise hell over this. We’re not even feeling the gravity of the situation. This could (will probably) be an ailment he has to deal with for the rest of his career. We’ll be complaining about this hit for many years to come. To fully be an annoying Leafs fan, we subsidize so much of this league and this is one of those times management pushes back on this lopsided player safety protocol. Our best player got a severe injury and the guy just got a slap on the wrist as punishment. How do we expect this asshole to not do it again. He’s more than incentivized to do it.

  5. Report from Parros announced, Matthews to be suspended 5 games at the start of next season for getting in the way of Gudas knee.

Gudas to get 5k fine and a stern talking to.

  6. And the NHL is going to pretend like this is as serious to player safety as Nylander doing the middle finger.

  7. Terrible ending to a terrible season

Rest up, get whatever you need to Matthews and come back as the elite goal scorer you are

  8. How Gudas was not even suspended is disgusting. The Department of “Player Safety” is a joke. George Parros is a fucking idiot

  9. Fuck gudas man what a pice of shit

Get better king see you next year ❤️❤️

  10. Fuck, but trying to stay positive, it should only take him out for the rest of this season. Was worried about his ACL too.

Matthews gets an early exit to this season where he can take time to rehab/recover from that along with his other lingering injuries, and be reason for next year, whether he’s on our team or not (highly expect the former).

  11. insane cope incoming but, he needed to take a break to deal with whatever was already seemingly injured, this kinda forces him to stop and recover.

  12. Gudas chuckling in the corner wiping his mouth after appearing from under the table parros is sitting at. Fuck Gudas

  13. Not a doctor but in medical field. Looking at about 8-12 weeks for a full recovery, these guys are pro athletes and have top of line rehabilitation facilities so it could be less.

Really sucks for AM, hockey aside he’s also a human. Hopefully he recovers well. Also, fuck Gudas put him on a one way ticket to the sun.

  14. Give me a league minimum nhl contract and suit me up next time they play gudas. Ill end my nhl career and his that night

  15. I’m fairly confident that Matthews has some other lingering injuries and was probably best incentivized to sit out the rest of the season anyway. There’s no point in playing him, so it’s in his best interest to get a head start on recovery and get ready for next year

  16. I can only think of Sam Bennett body slamming Knies behind the net in the playoffs; and nobody did anything . This team has zero grit.

  17. So putting this in English for everyone:

Grade 3 MCL Tear is the most severe grade there is, and can often result in an ACL tear (though not always). Main symptom is… well, your knee is fucked. Hurts a lot and is super swollen. Takes around 4-6 weeks to heal on its own, longer if the ACL went with it. Surgery USUALLY isn’t necessary for this to recover on its own, but in the most extreme cases, it’s necessary, or can speed up recovery.

Quad contusion is basically the muscles in your quad being damaged. Again, symptoms are pain, swelling, and sensitivity around your knee, and the most severe cases may require crutches to walk. It has 3 grades, being Mild, Moderate, or Severe, but you usually can’t diagnose which grade it is for a day or two. A mild contusion can usually heal in a week. Moderate or Severe, you’re looking at at least 2 months, probably more.

Reality is that even if it’s a mild quad contusion, the Grade 3 Tear is enough to end Matthews’ season with the time left in it. If it’s a Severe contusion as well, we start to enter “will he be healthy in time for training camp” territory.

Phone call hearing, by the way.

  18. Fuck Radko, fuck the NHL, and genuinely fuck this soft ass team for doing nothing in the moment.

Auston is lucky to still potentially have a career. Hopefully he finishes out his days on a team that gives a shit.

  19. Yeah. I cant wait for the 5th gudas suspension, resulting in the injury to the team USA captain, to be 2 games.

And the team did nothing, because they didn’t know how bad it was.

Purge the team. Blow it up. Fire the coach. Fire the GM. Trade everyone.

This team cannot be saved. It cannot be rebuilt. There is no core to build from. The rot is endemic.

I would rather the team lose for the next 10 years, then be this…soul less disgrace that cant muster a response when your franchise player suffers a season ending injury. Maybe career ending.

  20. It should be a rule in the NHL that injured a player miss the same number of games until he comes back into the lineup without pay.
