  1. Cowards. Watched their captain get taken out and did nothing. Hopefully this will be a wakeup call for Matthews. He should walk from that clown show organization.

  2. With regards to the hit on Mathews ā€œyou get what you giveā€ I haven’t seen him once come in to defend a teammate and so this is what happens, correct me if I’m wrong. My two cents

  3. Final Straw- Bailing on their Captain. Fire'm all – Staff and Players. Response was too little too late. MATTHEWS should not have played due to injury.
BURUBE should want out to get away from these guys.

  4. The fact, that nobody stood up for the, captain speaks volumes about this pathetic team! I don`t care if you like the guy as a teammate, but if someone attacks your captain you simply have to stand up for him! It is your duty! If the same had happened to Pastrnak in Boston, for example, his teammates would have beaten Gudas into a bloody pulp!

  5. And please, saying Rielly knows about this but how many times had he dropped the gloves to help a teammate??? I can't remember the last time he dropped the gloves…just checked, 4 times in 13 seasons, now that's a man you want to go to war with…Jesus Christ.

  6. Habs fan . This scum should be out of the league. Perpetual offender dangerous to player’s livelihood. People pay to see Matthews not scum Gudas.

  7. Where were his teammates after the hit. I’d have like to have seen the line show more after the hit
Gudas is physical but suspension better be coming!!!

  8. Where were his teammates after the hit. I’d have like to have seen the line show more after the hit
Gudas is physical but suspension better be coming!!!

  9. Can you imagine a Berube team failing to respond to a knee hit on their captain ? Unbelievable and unacceptable- good call guys as it’s not the first time this season they have failed to stand up for each other
This screams of the issues in Toronto – heart, passion, simply not standing up for one another.
    No Excuses

  10. Good commentary by both of you
Love Leaf Talk after the games.
    Berube has to be embarrassed
I’m still in shock a day later by the hit and total lack of response

  11. Softest team for decades now. That was embarrassing. I've paid attention to every game over the years and I couldn't care less about this one. My disappointment is immeasurable.

  12. Coach could have sent out pezzetta on the power play with Benoit and McCabe and turned it into a 5 on 4 donnybrook. Nice to see cowboy drop them after Robertson got hit.

  13. I have to be honest boys; I didn't like seeing this team win. For the first time in my adult life, I don't like seeing the Leafs win. 3rd period was an incredible display of what this team really could be, but we have too many primadonnas. The darkness continues.

  14. they went out and tried to unalive the whole Ducks team in the 3rd. Sometimes the wrong guys are the closest ones. Credit to Willy for looking genuinely pissed, I do not in any world want him taking a real run at Gudas. So that's on Mo in the moment being the bigger (I think?) player vs. Willy. I do give Rielly and company credit for the physicality in the 3rd. It was the first time since the Colorado game where they played with a playoff pace.Ā

Actually, this sort of highlighted the issue with Berube ball – that 3rd period is what the team and system looks like at it's best, but it only worked when their cortisol was at 1000% because their captain got capped, their coach ripped them and the team playing them has issues structurally controlling games. Pezzetta is so much better a fit for this system than lorentz or Jarnkrok that it makes one genuinely need a full incident report as to why he didn't get runway earlier. Pace and physicality system, to play with that you need someone who has…pace and physicality. Genuinely could see that 3rd period team being effective in the playoffs, but it's so unstable in the regular season when any drop off in play results in getting absolutely pillaged.Ā

Another salient example of the season's woes – Groulx is fantastic, PKs, scores. It is so embarrassing to this organization that this is his first run. Qulliain, Cowan, Groulx, Pezzetta, Haymes, and a few defensemen need to get time here and consideration next year. Beyond incompetent if they let these clearly valuable players go for nothing.

  15. 12:18 should’ve taken out Cutters knees after Gudas left, if they go low then you gotta go lower in this league. Look at the Panthers, don’t even get tried really anymore and when they do they don’t get punished by Gary’s dumbass!

  16. Let's be real. The response wasn't great. But the Leafs aren't that type of team, they had guys who would, but they've been traded away and I think everyone expects someone else to do something. Hopefully Cowan dropping the gloves after the hit on Robertson, will be a turning point for that locker room. And everyone will start watching out for everyone. They know what they signed up for, pursuing this career their whole lives. Time to start embracing the occupational hazards that go alone with it.
