OVERREACTION: Cincinnati Reds Can Still WIN Without Hunter Greene – Why the NL Central Should WORRY

Hunter Greene’s injury has Reds fans worried, but should they be? Jeff and Steve argue the Cincinnati Reds remain strong contenders for the NL Central, even as national media and oddsmakers lower expectations. With Andrew Abbott, Nick Lodolo, Chase Burns, and Rhett Lowder bolstering the starting rotation, the Reds’ pitching depth is underrated. The revamped lineup—with Eugenio Suárez, Sal Stewart, and a healthy Elly De La Cruz—sets the stage for breakout All-Star campaigns.

The hosts break down the Reds’ presence in the Locked On MLB Top 100, analyzing why Elly De La Cruz, Eugenio Suárez, Hunter Greene, Andrew Abbott, and Nick Lodolo made the cut. Plus, the battle for the outfield heats up: can Rece Hinds earn a roster spot, or will Blake Dunn and Hector Rodriguez get the call? Don’t miss the bold predictions, heated debates, and why smashing the FanDuel over may be the year’s best bet.

  1. Amen brother your right anything the reds accomplish this season is going to be without green. They really don't need him anyways heck how many seasons has it been since they signed green always injured .Green has made his money he doesn't care trade the dude

  2. The take on Abbott is not without merit. A lot of the high end fantasy guys would agree that his pitching metrics don't equate to his results. They think there's an element of deception in his delivery that helps with the results.

  3. Even without Hunter, I still pick Reds to win the division. Milwaukee has given up key players, Cubs pitching is not close, Reds lineup is way stronger than in 25.

  4. IF you are going to give Hinds a shot, it needs to be as an every day player. If Steer or Marte gets hurt, then maybe you give him a full time shot. He obviously wasn't ready to be a part time player as a bench OF last year, that's something you want more of a veteran presence for imo.

  5. Reds oughta be giving Greene update today! (Very good visual presentation on the podcast. So many vids nowadays don't even set up camera view well – 😄)

  6. Great cast, guys!
Hey FanDuel, enough with throwing shade on the Reds staff! I no longer keep close enough tabs on MLB, other than the Reds, to compare with other teams, so I'll ask you informed guys to help me out. The Reds staff, without Greene, looks solid to me. FanDual puts 3 of the Reds pitchers in the MLB Top 100 then says they're going to finish below .500? How bad do they think the offense and defense is? I agree with Jeff and Steven, it's goofy. Who in the Central has a better staff? I'm more concerned about defense than anything else, and I'm not staying up nights over that.
I'm pretty high on Andrew Abbott. I think he's the real deal, and as Steven stated, he can be still better. I hope he shows those jerks that dissed him by having a fantastic year.
I hope Benson and Bleday do great, but if either falter much, Hinds will get a chance. It'll be up to him to make the cut. I hope his potential comes to fruition – and not in NY or LA! And I hope he isn't another Wily Mo Pena…he looked like the second coming of Frank Howard…during batting practice.

  7. Greene gets healthy, comes in and is dominant, and then gets traded. Not sure the timing of the trade, but I am skeptical on him pitching for Cincy past '26

  8. The Reds on the field are the ones who must compete and win.
The Reds are the ones who must prove themselves.
Nick Krall has provided the necessary tools for success …….. Kudos Nick.
Now Cincy ….. do your thing and prove the Nay sayers wrong ON THE FIELD.

  9. Grain of salt….and please be skeptical. I'm not connected, at all. But I know a guy, yes I get it, who claims to have had a conversation with one of the Red's doctors and the phrase "typical Hunter" was used in regards to him overthrowing in the off-season.
