Poor Puck Management and Subpar Goaltending HAUNT San Jose Sharks Again

San Jose Sharks’ playoff push hits a snag as poor puck management and costly turnovers fuel a 7-4 defeat against the Ottawa Senators. Will shaky defensive play and subpar goaltending derail their postseason hopes, or can San Jose regroup in time for their biggest game of the year?

JD Young spotlights the defensive lapses from Sam Dickinson, Collin Graf, and John Klingberg, dissecting how breakdowns in the Sharks’ zone allowed Ottawa’s forecheck to dominate. The episode questions the decision to start Laurent Brossoit on the second night of a back-to-back, discusses Alex Wennberg’s injury status, and considers if standout Barracuda forward Filip Bystedt should get his NHL shot. Key segments include Michael Misa’s strong showing—despite limited ice time—the Sharks’ faltering penalty kill, and Tuesday’s must-win matchup against the Edmonton Oilers. Can San Jose adjust their strategy and ignite a late-season surge?

  1. Part of me feels like we should’ve played Ned again and then part of me thinks that the whole team looked exhausted so wonder if he would’ve been too. Plus, we’ll need him fresh for the Oilers. Regardless, we need Asky, Wennberg and Cherny back stat.

  2. Something to note about starting Brossoit over Ned is that Ullmark also played awful in the back to back so there is equal evidence that Ned would have also struggled

  3. Sick to death of the lack of physicality and the amount of turnovers in our own end. Lost count of how many Dickinson had.

  4. It’s usually not just goaltending, there were defensive gremlins too, but we should’ve had enough offense to win. I’m used to terrible Sens games but this one pissed me off. Needed these points.

  5. Writting this before listening- People can’t blame Brossoit. He played last NHL game for Winnipeg and defense didnt help the situation as well. Could he save more? Probably yes, but the defensive game and turnovers were just too bad.

  6. The defense is so bad they blindly shot it up the board's out of their zone. I want to blame the players but it's the coach gameplan I bet. collin graf isn't celebrini he needs to play a basic or simpler play.

  7. There are a few factors the Sharks performance is subpar right now, in my opinion. The refs have not made it easy on the Sharks the last few games, with missed calls and weak calls that result in a penalty. Puck management and communication needs work, for sure. Some might not agree with me here, but Nedeljkovic is my top pick for goalie. Impact player with great hockey sense.
