Seven games to be played in Calgary @ the Fire Place

  1. Ah. Wish we could get the quarter finals and championship game. Oh well. I’ll take 7/10 anyday!

  2. So CSEC puts in all the work for this bid, then Edmonton gets the semi finals and finals

    Yah, fuck you bettman.

  3. Gary if we can’t host the semis or the finals, please give us the 1st overall this year 🙏

  4. How does the math work for 7 games?

Groups of 4 would have a total of 6 games. Groups of 5 would play 10 games.

  5. In a perfect world, Calgary is the sole host and games will be played in the dome and Scotia Place.

  6. Unbelievable people are putting a bit of a negative spin to us actually getting to host games for the World Cup of Hockey. We were up against place like Toronto, Boston, Montreal, etc. who usually get these events by default.

This is great for the city! I understand that not getting the big games isn’t the most ideal, but hosting many round robin games is still awesome and I know I’ll be getting tickets to see some of the tournament.

  7. I think it would have made more sense to put the medal games in the newer arena, but I like this arrangement because we get guaranteed Team Canada games (and Team USA, for those still willing to support them).

And understanding this isn’t a Hockey Canada event, my only real concern with Edmonton is that this will come soon after the city hosts the 2027 WJHC. It seems to me that Vancouver would have been better as it’s been a while since they’ve hosted anything meaningful. Or Seattle. Get a US host that is right on the border.

  8. Makes sense Edmonton gets the semi-finals as they have McDavid as a big part of team Canada (and Drai for the Germans) while we have…

  9. I would *love* to see the math behind 172,000 hotel rooms being filled in Alberta by this tournament. I know they mean per night, so one person staying for 10 days = 10 rooms, but not a chance that figure is realistic.
