  1. Vincent Borgesi – small skilled defenceman – 22 years old

    EliteProspects says:

    > Borgesi already thinks the game at a professional level. With the puck on his stick, he’s skilled, cunning, and decisive, never shy to push the limits of his skill set to make things happen. Well-timed activations keep him constantly involved in the play, and the use of space paired with a series of deceptive manoeuvres like look-offs or fakes cuts through opponents and opens up passing lanes

  2. I’ve watched a decent amount of Borgesi this year. He’s decent, dudes got a wicked wrister. It’s basically an automatic goal on a 5on3. So, could be a decent pp option the year after next year. He won’t be able to go straight to the NHL next year. Defensively he’ll get out muscled, and not amazing against a the forecheck. Will definitely make bad plays under pressure and struggle to break the puck out. Absolutely an offensive defensemen. He’s that new age Lane Hutson defensemen, good hands and shifty.

His realistic ceiling is probably third pairing powerplay specialist. His d partner will be having to do a lot of heavy lifting 5on5. However, don’t hate the pickup at all with all of our top d prospects being more on the defensive side. At least will give them someone to play with in the AHL worst case.

Edit: if he’s able to translate that shiftiness to the defensive end he’ll be able to play. But currently struggling with that. Offensive defensemen that struggle to break out the puck even if it’s on their stick will always struggle against NHL competition

  3. Height: 5’8″
    174 lbs
    Shoots R

Well he is a right shot D, thats always in high demand in the NHL.

  4. Shocked that Brad is making any moves at this point. Figured he’d just be in his offices waiting out the next few weeks.

  5. Don’t see any downside in grabbing lottery tickets like this when you have the financial muscle, lack of impact prospects, and room in the AHL for guys like this.

  6. Hutson is 5’9” and a player even smaller than Maccelli won the Conn Smythe three seasons ago.

I’m glad Treliving didn’t waste a spot on another refrigerator on skates even if this kid amounts to nothing, for once.

  7. The scouting report sounds similar to Torey Krug, if he’s a low end Torey Krug, he’d be Rasmus Sandin. If he’s a low end Sandin, he’d be Troy Stecher. IDK if that makes sense, but there is a path for him to make a legit role on an NHL team.

  8. Before anyone talks about his size, Hutson is similarly sized and while I doubt he’s Hutson, he’s got an insane motor and could force his way into the NHL if he keeps up his insane work ethic

  9. I love the work ethic of smaller players like Borgesi. Big heavy defencemen always make more of an impression on scouts. To get any level of interest from the NHL as a smaller player you have to work your nuts off, and that work ethic shows itself on the ice.

Look forward to seeing him with the Marlies jext year, since I can actually afford those tickets

  10. Lol, this is their only move, since they traded away all their first-round picks. Get excited, Leafs fans! They’ve signed a player that every other NHL team looked at and said, ‘Nah, we are good.’
