[Passan] BREAKING: Center fielder Pete Crow-Armstrong and the Chicago Cubs are finalizing a long-term contract extension, sources tell ESPN. Crow-Armstrong, coming off a 30-30 season and a Gold Glove, will get a big payday as the Cubs lock up a franchise-caliber talent.

LETS GOOOOO
What a great trade
One of the few guys with a pulse on Team USA when it mattered. Well deserved.
I can’t wait to hear the number
Nico is next
Good for PCA but my god for the Cubs sake they better hope the first half is who he really is and not the second
So barring Griffin and Kurtz, who are some other extension candidates?
I’m gonna guess it was for more than they offered him at the beginning of last year lmaoo
Lots of last second lock ups before the season starts. Young stars getting paid.
Freak athlete, one of the best young players in the game. Incredibly high floor and a ceiling that hasn’t been hit yet. Love locking him up.
This is thrilling Monday night news!!!
Nico next, please!!
Passan Nuke 💣⚾️
Someone mentioned that PCA had an OBP under 300 last year, and I still haven’t quite gotten over that.
I do think he’s really good tho
Balls to the wall move for Cubs. I mean his glove is obviously sticky and he’s got enough pop that I doubt any deal is horrendous but my god the dude absolutely didn’t show longevity with the bat. Good on them for taking that chance. Risky play that could really set them up well.
Great seeing all these young studs get locked up for years to come with their teams. Normalize playing for the same team your entire career!
Really solid offseason for the Cubs after losing Tucker.
Bregman, Cabrera, and now a PCA extension. Gonna be quite good this year.
Can you imagine if they didn’t pay him, and like..traded him away at the deadline for depth.
In a totally unrelated theory-could you imagine him on a team like the Mets?!
This man is a true ballplayer…congrats cubbies
Konnor Griffin, Nick Kurtz, Junior Caminero, Wyatt Langford, James Wood, Riley Greene, and Elly De La Cruz.
I’d have to imagine more extensions in the near future for some of these guys.
A little gift from the Mets!
mrw every time PCA is in the news

FUCK YES BAYBEE!!!!!
I’ve been wanting them to do something like this for the last 7 or 8 years. To feel like we have a guy or guys and not just some very good players at value deals for 3-4 years at a time tops. Trading for Tucker even though that didn’t work out long term, actually replacing him with Bregman and actually locking down your clear star player with an at worst gold glove, base running monster ceiling? Thank you Cubs! I’m ready for Thursday!

Now do Hoerner!
I’m smiling so hard rn, I love it
Holy shit congrats Cubs!
LETS FUCKING GO!!!!

His hatred of the Dodgers continues.
Look at Ricketts, spending that big owner money
Imagine signing your star player and not trading him away to the dodgers. Couldn’t be my team.
10/700 confirmed, I can’t believe it
The crazy thing is you know there’s no threat of him leaving to the Dodgers one day.
Huge win

Well done Cubs!
This will be a super interesting contract. PCA has such a wide range of outcomes where he was an MVP candidate and then benched vs lefties. The ceiling is as high as the floor low.
He’s so good Cubs, you guys should give him 500 mil. He deserves it
He reminds me of a modern day Mike Cameron whose value primarily comes from being the best defensive CFer in the game with a great power/speed combo to make up for lack of overall hitting ability. The biggest flaw in PCA’s game though is the lack of OBP and even his incredible first half which people point to as his upside saw him slash .265/**.302**/.544. Most of his value is derived from his ability to slug and play an elite CF.
This is the second year in a row he’s posted a sub .300 OBP and his running totals the last two years have been .286 and .287 and his most recent bout in AAA prior to his call-up saw him posting a .299 OBP. Luckily though he’s just turning 24 and he’s shown that even if he’s below league average offensively his defense alone puts him at ~3 fWAR and if he’s only slightly above-average he’s a ~ 5fWAR player; the lack of OBP isn’t a death sentence though and I think an appropriate modern day offensive profile you’re looking at is if Teoscar Hernandez or 2025 Jo Adell could play an elite CF.
Dammit, his A+ Dodger-hating would have been a perfect fit on the Giants
no one hates when players get paid more than this subreddit. jesus, guys.
This bugs me cause I have family ties to the Northside and before ’16 the Cubs were my NL team. Now it’s very much the “congrats, happy for you” meme.
