I was expecting the Montreal loss, it was the Ottawa loss that was the killer. Roy needs to keep these lines intact and go with what works best. Keep the 4th line together. The PP actually looks better. Enough of Duclair I've seen enough of him. Limit Mayfield and we are going to ride Schaefer the rest of the way.
I find the Islander fan base borderline insufferable this season. You all sound spoiled. You can't go through a sports season happy after every win, h@ting the team after every loss. That's what 11 year olds do!
You have the greatest rookie since….???
You are dancing around a playoff spot – which is exactly what the "best case scenario" was for this team.
You got Schenn for dimes on the dollar (buying at trade deadline is better than selling) – those players sent away will amount to minimal if anything.
You got a dozen games left, things aren't dire – and you play the mass majority of the games at home.
You've been able to keep your head above water while a few teams got really hot (what, CBJ has lost one regulation game in the past 20+, something like that!), Ottawa has been one the hottest team past 20 games, and your boys went toe to toe with them like it was a playoff game. And unfortunate bounce, cost them at least a point. Doesn't mean them suk, doesn't mean they cant compete, doesn't mean the season is over. – and for those saying the future of the team is ruined bc of the Schenn trade… go sit at the kiddy table with that sensibility and talk sports. That's about the dumbest sh!t I've heard! …and I live in Maple Leaf land lol
1) KEEP the lines consistent for at least 4-5 games and let some chemistry unfold.
2) Tighten up the middle game – teams shouldn't be able to enter your zone so easily.
3) Get into playoff mode – this is the season.
4) Fans, enjoy the competition, the close games, sweating out every minute – this is sports baby! You're in a playoff run all while there still is a tomorrow.
Getting SPANKED by Montreal, whose offense is SO clearly better than ours, should be a wake up call for Darche. That team is the future of the league and only getting stronger.
We need to be BETTER than Montreal. Not close, not almost as good…BETTER!!
Bottom line. We need 2 more goal scorers OR a FAR FAR better defense. Right now we lack both
If you're going to change your trajectory mid-way through the season and push to make the playoffs, you need to always put out your best skaters and there are guys on this team who are/were dragging down the team with bad losses to teams like WPG, Calgary on the road, LA, Vancouver at home….all of those missed point opps add up in March.
IMO what last night proved is the isles have a good coach, they have a goalie that can change a game, and they have the bodies that can get the job done. The next 11 games will be decided by the players. No more excuses, gut check time.
The game last night was a solid showing would have liked to see more physicality but still a solid performance.
Why is Mitch an Islander fan in Canada? Just curious.
Problem is once they get a lead, the foot comes off the gas
SCOREVAT! Where would this team be without him, Sorokin, Barzal and Schaefer? Worse than the Rangers, that’s were, in prime position for another draft lottery win.
Huge win, Especially without Pulock, Duke, Palmieri, Romanov.
It seems the Isles have been struggling, but they are 10-5-0 in their last 15 games. Can’t complain about that, it just so happened that this past Saturday was the perfect storm against them.
Guys; we are not “up & down.” We win games by one goal, or in OT, most of the time. This is not a dominant team by any measure. Perhaps in another 2 seasons.
Isles have the 6th most wins in the league, 4th most in the east. It's really wild how much the loser points swing things. I was always a loser point apologist when the Isles were benefitting, but now the shoe's on the other foot and it's pretty insane.
