Villeneuve better be playing next season.

  1. It’s probably for the best that he stays with the Marlies. If they call him up Berube will play him 4 minutes a night so that he can ram the same 4 defensemen and 6 forwards into playing 20+ minutes in his attempts to “win” games because he’s an incompetent moron.

  2. Why the fuck isn’t he playing now? What is the point in playing Myers? This team is idiotic

  3. Guy hasn’t gotten a sniff of the NHL. We’ve been awful at development the last ~6-7 years, either rushing guys way too fast like Robertson, or not giving guys a shot like Villeneuve.

Before that we’d routinely give guys a season or two in the Marlies without getting yo-yo’d up and down, then give them an extended look with legitimate minutes on the big team (eg Brown, Hyman, Nylander, Dermott, etc).

  4. I forgot all about this kid, tonnes of Junior hype… then buried in the AHL, why ?? Cowan should have had more games this year as well, look around the league at the young talent taking over!!

  5. Some guys are just great AHLers. Look up Jarrod Skalde. The guy played like 15 plus years in the AHL consistently putting up like 60-70 points a season. Just couldn’t cut it in the NHL though. Had all kinds of licks with like 10 different teams.

  6. I had no idea he was doing so good.

Even the talk shows and podcasts only talk about him offhandedly.

Where the hells the coverage been?

  7. Marlies are pretty good this year. Might even be Calder Cup contenders if Cowan was playing with them.

Also, Dakota Mermis is healthy again and playing in the AHL again. He’s way better than Myers, so not sure what he’s doing down there

  8. Leafs should try to sign Raddysh or a good under the radar dman next year. Top 6 would be something like:

    McCabe/raddysh
    Ekl/tanev
    Rielly/Carlo

Stetcher as a 7th works for me. Villeneuve could continue with Marlies for a bit and get callup after an injury.

  9. He’s always looked out of place in preseason, although I thought the same about Holl (was right in the long run but he was definitely serviceable for a bit). I think getting some games here wouldn’t be the worst but he’s an AHLer most likely. This sub is so weird with their obsession with playing tweeners, it doesn’t matter they won’t be decision makers either way.

I know you guys keep hearing about guys taken off waivers and turning into decent pieces, but there’s another massive gap between guys that would get claimed off waivers and guys that’ll pass through waivers.

  10. The leafs defense needs to hauled out, Rielly has lost his legs he was such a beast during the playoffs but he’s become a liability at this point. Carlo is fucking awful too shouldn’t of traded for him since Boston even said he doesn’t use his body for a big guy

  11. The Leafs should play him next year for sure…they need a solid number 9 or 10 D

  12. I agree but management isn’t calling him up to see what he can do. He’s an RFA next season and he’s gotten 0 NHL games. I’m worried that they’re gonna let him walk like Steeves, Holmberg and Abruzesse.

  13. Benoit, Myers, and Stecher are getting minutes in a lost season but a guy like Villeneuve can’t get into THIS lineup? This franchise is fucking clueless right now.

How on earth would this team be any worse if Villeneuve, Chadwick, etc played instead of those three plugs?

  14. Villeneauve is out of a contract at the end of this season – while the team retain his RFA rights and it shouldn’t be anymore of a formality at this point, the odds are pretty low he suits up for the Leafs next year if they intend to do this pseudo-retool thing.

Wonder if he becomes trade fodder as the Leafs look to address some stiuations with their roster construction.

  15. I wouldn’t mind seeing him in a different system, but they do need to make two to three changes min on the blueline
