Per Cavanagh: Radko Gudas is back and appears to be replacing Olen Zellweger

I made a post before but I deleted because I realized Cavanagh had updated since then. It looks like Zelly is the odd man out with Gudas returning.
All things considered, I think this is the right decision. Zellweger has been pretty brutal recently and as much as Gudas can be liability at times, he is not nearly as inconsistent defensively. It doesn’t help either that the whole upside to Zelly is supposed to be his offensive production when he doesn’t really have much of that at all this season.
Gudas absolutely needs to keep his nose clean from here on out, and if he can, I think he can at least provide some veteran leadership as a player who has been to the playoffs many times before and knows what it takes to win at this point of the season.
Plus, based on the pairings listed here – it appears Gudas is going to be manning the third defensive pairing with Moore, so he won’t be getting a ton of ice time. Hopefully that allows him to play at full speed without slowing down too much over the game.

Embarrassing to have him wear our C, and very glad he is gone this summer. Downvote me all you want, Gudas is a disgrace to the Anaheim Ducks and will be remembered that way.
Zellweger has been horrible defensively lately that said
He needs to find his game again. I don’t think he deserves to sit the rest of the season, but I can’t see them benching any of the Vets. We’ve all seen when he’s on it and he has a lot of potential. He’s been playing the least amount of minutes and still has 20 points. It’ll be an interesting rest of the season.
This sub has moved to now bashing zellweger. Zellweger has had good stretches this year. Everyone has taken time to sit out… mctavish, minty, zelle, helle, Moore, etc. Zellweger will be fine still a young D working through it.
Q is kinda punishing 2 d-men here, Zelly being scratched and Moore being anchored by Gudas. Which I’m fine with, they’re both in a bit of a slump.
I probably would’ve had Gudas replace Moore because of familiarity but I totally get this one. Zellweger was pretty bad during the suspension although I do suspect most of that was because Gudas was out so Gudas getting back in might’ve got him right on track. Largely suspect Zellweger will play more down the stretch, though.
Worried about the lack of speed on the blue line. Zellweger hasn’t been good but being replaced for Gudas seems like a poor decision.
No problem with that, can lead a lot from watching and everyone else who’s sat it’s done them good. Well other than helleson but he’s no Zelly, minty, Mac t, etc
This is the first time we have the full roster playing in how long?
Don’t like this decision. Personally, I’d go 11-7 and keep all the defenseman b/c Moore obviously has shown the ability to be an emergency forward as well if needed. But if you’re stuck on going with 6, I’m definitely keeping Zellwegger and benching one of Moore/Gudas! I get Olen’s had significant growing pains but he’s got much more upside than these other guys.

I will say this he hasn’t been on a power play in months hard to get going offensively when your not given the chances that’s all I’m saying … him and trouba were amazing yet we continue to split that pair up
