DECISION: Calgary Flames’ Abram Wiebe EYES Professional Contract as Fans ANTICIPATE Next Steps

Abram Wiebe holds all the cards as he faces a rare opportunity: sign with the Calgary Flames or test the waters of NHL free agency. Will the BC-born defenseman’s accelerated graduation and Calgary’s enticing roster spot be enough to lock him in, or are the Flames at risk of losing a valuable prospect after the Rasmus Andersson trade?

We analyze Wiebe’s immediate NHL future, the Flames’ strategic draft pick accumulation, and the shifting landscape in a Pacific Division with a dismal -122 goal differential. The episode highlights Calgary’s four-game win streak, Yegor Sharangovich’s clutch shootout winner, and Zayne Parekh’s first goal on home ice. Get insights on how the Flames’ recent moves could shape their postseason hopes, the stakes with Vegas’s playoff position, and why Anaheim tops the division despite a negative goal differential. Plus, celebrate Al MacInnis’s 100-point milestone and join the conversation in the Flames’ growing fan community.

  1. Brother big upgrade from the last host but we need more details and analytics of the players you are talking about. Too vanilla. It's a big part of the story and with all the new players coming in we "the fans" would probably be everydayers if you focused on what they bring to the Flames. What the team structure could look like with these picks and the like. Great opportunity to tell the story….in fact it's one of the reasons why I listen to Locked on Oilers everyday. Nick kills it with the details and explaining the situation. Anyhow I'm sure more guys in Cow town would subscribe and like if you focused more on the details. Also bring in guests that offer an upgrade on your opinion. Thats why you get them in right?

  2. Wiebe was an interesting toss in from the Ras trade. I'm guessing our scouts had seen a ton of him and believe he has some tools that we could push in camp and further develop. Defensemen take longer to develop and while he's an older prospect he has some interesting traits. The kid wears the "A" and is a reliable defensemen who prioritizes a clean first pass and defensive zone responsibility. Wiebe has size and is decently mobile, but will need to improve his skating to make the show and lacks a NHL caliber slapshot. Scouts project him as a responsible bottom pairing/7th defensemen which isn't a bad thing. Wiebe's drawn comparison to Whitecloud in style, size, and play. Every teams needs a guy like that and this trade deadline had many teams wanting Whitecloud for that exact reason. Wiebe has stated he models his game after Whitecloud, which to me, what's not to like if he signs here. Playing for the Wranglers, he'll get plenty of opportunities to connect with Zack and improve his game.
