[Vorkunov] Adam Silver said it was “unanimous” among owners today at the NBA Board of Governors meeting that the league needs to change tanking rules and do it before the draft this June. There will be a special BOG session in May to deal with that. “We are going to fix it. Full stop,” Silver said.

Timing wise this works out great as we did our most important tanking in 2025 and 2026 drafts. Now we can watch how it affects other teams without worrying about our tanks being impacted
The way I read it the changes seem to impact this years draft hopefully that’s not the case. Don’t understand why they seem to be in a hurry to fix it THIS may when they have the summer. Actually I do cause of teams like the jazz doing stunts this season and pacers
This is great for us. Knicks and Nuggets is not going to bottom out in the future years we prob get a good shot at #1 pick if they fall to 10th spot.
They better not fuckin flatten the odds this year. Genuinely such a dumb idea to implement anything this year when teams are just operating within the current draft lottery rules and tanking is one of the only legitimate ways to accumulate talent.
yawn. They don’t enforce the rules now. Will Hardy doesn’t challenge obviously bad calls at the end of games that would help the Jazz win. . You can make all the rules you want but if you don’t define and enforce what constitutes crossing the line, nothing changes.
I honestly think flattening the odds was a bad idea and has made tanking worse.
The flattened odds have prevented teams that are in desperate need of talent from getting talent, so they’re stuck tanking for multiple years (e.g. the wizards or the jazz).
At the same time, teams that would normally not be tanking are incentivized to play worse, as they still have a chance to get a top pick, even right outside the play-in (e.g. Mavs and Grizzlies).
If Silver wants to reduce tanking long-term, he should make the odds less flat, prevent teams from picking in the top 5 more than 2 yrs in a row, and possibly make odds based on the past 2 yrs.
Just don’t make any changes this season, because that would be absurd for the teams that have planned their whole seasons around the tank.
Flattening the odds made tanking worse. Every bad team has a legit shot at the number 1 pick. How did they possibly think that was a good idea?
They should go with years without making the playoffs instead of standings. Teams that are only bad for one season because of injury should not be getting high picks. If a team miss the playoff more 3 consecutive seasons they should start rebuilding and find their cornerstone from draft.
