URGENT: New York Islanders Playoff Hopes— Patrick Roy & Anders Lee CALLED OUT to DELIVER Consistency

The New York Islanders stare down a make-or-break playoff stretch as recurring defensive lapses and leadership questions threaten their postseason hopes. Can Anders Lee, Patrick Roy, and Mathew Barzal rally the team to overcome the same costly mistakes that have plagued them all year?

Gil Martin tackles the Islanders’ inability to clear the puck and inconsistent physicality, weighing Ken from Minnesota’s suggestions for strategic improvements. The podcast covers Tony D’Angelo’s injury, accountability issues in NHL officiating, and how the team must deliver a full 60-minute effort to stay alive. With eight of their final ten games at home and playoff spots on the line, the analysis explores whether this squad can find urgency and consistency, and what changes are needed behind the scenes. Will the Islanders fix their season in time—and can fans trust the integrity of NHL calls moving forward?

  1. Is Anders Lee going to make another guarantee? Worst Captain ever!!! No guts, no passion whatsoever!! As usual this team plays for a point, not a win!! No killer instincts, no passion, no anger, no playing on the edge. Same playing mentality every game. Wasting a fine season by Scheafer. Same thing every year play the first half then the second half of the season the true teams start to show their game and we can't keep up with them and we struggle to get to the playoffs.Gil its the same thing every year they get you hooked then pull the rug right from under us. Even if they make it they can't contend the bigger teams will obliterate us physically.

  2. Anders, Bo, Brayden, whoever else: whatever leaders you pretend to be, skill and defense win you games, not imaginary leadership nonsense. Youre professionals, paid millions, figure it out. Just garbage.

  3. I lost faith in Lee after hearing his comments after losing to Tampa in O.T in Game 7 when Tampa had too many men on the Ice… He said "Losing is all part of the Journey". This to me is such a loser mentality. Lee is a Country Clubber and I wish him well in on his new team come July. I have seen way too many flat performances and him not standing up for his team mates.

  4. Barzal skate's with puck and does his twirl and coughs up the puck. I don't understand why coaches don't tell him to just skate into the zone, then distribute the uck

  5. I threw in the towel on this team after the sub par performances in OTT and MTL. As other teams have amped up focus as playoffs approach, they haven't responded. In fact, other than Columbus, they've gone backwards.

  6. When an 18yr old rookie has to take the team on his back because the veterans aren’t performing, it tells you all you need to know about the culture of the franchise. I would have sat Barzal for the rest of the period, not for the turnover. For the lack of effort getting back to help.

  7. I cant point at Lee really here today as he has stepped up a no goal and then ahe scores yesterday… So he is chipping in; bending but not breaking, as for the others;what are they waiting for? Three periods to decide to show up to a games is frustrating… Holcomb, Heineman Sheafer show up… but where are the Gatsbys? Might be best the pony ends up on Sable Island for fear of becoming a Gatsby Mansion regular…

  8. Back checking is important
No $hit Roy it’s been happening all year when you going to fix it ? Now with 10 games left
    Need two years of Torts
    Gotta get structure

  9. The Islanders are simply too old and too slow, and the Schenn deal only underscores that issue. Instead of doubling down on an aging roster that’s already struggling to keep up with the pace of today’s NHL, they should have held onto that first‑round pick and used it to draft a young prospect who could develop alongside Schaefer. LGI

  10. Ok.. So been waiting to comment because I NEED to calm down! MATTHEW BARZAL you are a TERRIFIC skater.. Amazing hands… and can see the ice brilliantly! HOWEVER… Barzy u have NO HEART! You give the puck up at the blue line.. Lifts your head to the sky in disgust.. and as you just slowly coming back.. The goal scorer goes right past you and gets the THIRD TRY at the puck and scores.. It’s the reason you were snubbed in the Olympics! Look, Barzy.. I’m sorry.. Calling a spade a spade… These are the reasons we WONT make the playoffs! We lose almost EVERY 50/50 puck! And can ANYBODY stick up for Shaefer? We’re gonna lose this kid… Slanders LEE.. What do u DO other than wear the C? PLEASE fellas WAKE THE F UP!!!

  11. It's OK this season is over…but please make sure that veteran's don't come back for 26-27 season,I thank them love them but it is enough, buy them out, give them some other job with team but no more playing LGI..

  12. Wishing Tony D a speedy recovery. With all his less than stellar defensive prowess, he's a superb offensive defenseman, and lately he hasn't been bad on the defensive end either

  13. No team is going to take responsibility for not being talented enough. This team overachieves with the Sorokin, Schaefer, Barzal and Horvat. Other than that we have a lot of bottom 6 forwards and 3rd pair defenseman. When your PP is atrocious, every game is a nail biter. By the way you take the good with the bad with Barzal. He is one of the few electric players on the ice who at times is also a turnover machine. Is it any surprise the Islanders once again played down to their competition? See Vancouver, Winnipeg and Calgary as a few examples

  14. Roy Horrible! Not liking Lee’s comments! That’s nice we are all friends at the country club! That country club mentality has to end! We are stuck with Palatt and Schen’s 6 mill plus contracts but do we need to tie up another 5 million or so with Lee too! 18 million for? Darche has work to Do! Islanders are beyond predictable! Who is that on? Hate the continuous passing the puck back all the time! How will they Beat The Stars ⭐️ if they can’t beat The Hawks? Frustrating! No 60 minutes of play! To many excuses! Someone is making money on these possible fixed games sad

  15. Every time I see Schenn or hear his name, I'm bothered by the fact we gave away a first round pick for this waste. And it's exacerbated by the fact that we will have to pay him $6.5 per year for another two years. This team makes it very difficult to endure watching and rooting for them, when they continue the country club approach. Most of Darche's moves have been telegraphed as if they're scooby lou making them. At least Soucy and DeAngelo come off the roster next season. Neither should be brought back. Shabanov, a RFA after this season, should be moved. Unfortunately, he's not gonna make it in the NHL. Another year of Palat and his contract. I give up with this team. Poorly run since John O. Pickett decided to pocked the SportsChannel money. It was understandable then, as he had invested a lot of his own money in the team leading up to, and through, the Dynasty years. The Spectator Coliseum management deal was atrocious and made it difficult for Pickett to make money and continue paying high quality hockey players. It never ends. New arena, but some poorly managed franchise. Zzzzzzzzzzzzz! Yawn, burp, fart! Nighty night.

  16. isles can't hide their flaws forever. at this point it is what it is. roy constant shifting of lines, lack of leadership, lack of big time scoring, leaky d, whatever the flaws are. 30 and 30 only gets isles into the playoffs. this team got older not better during season and just doesn't have enough. the hab sen L's exposed isles as weak contender. once season ends darche has to decide if roy is the right coach going forward and find some fkn g scorers. and dump 27 and 11.

  17. For me, the Ottawa loss was the backbreaker. The third place seat we had was a gift from the hockey gods, and we should’ve been defending it FOR OUR LIVES. Instead, we quit in the third period and were immediately on the outside looking in.

At that moment I said our season was over. IF, by some sheer miracle, we actually were to make the cut, it would only be as a wildcard that serves us on a silver platter to the 1st or 2nd place team. There was simply no way we were going to overtake Columbus or Pittsburgh and reclaim our 3rd place spot. That seat was our only ticket to a postseason that could potentially extend beyond the first round.

And why was it a certainty that we’d NEVER reclaim 3rd?
    INCONSISTENCY.
That is what got us here and that’s what will hold us here.

BUT of all teams, why on earth would the Islanders struggle with consistency? I seriously doubt there is a team with more “leadership” up and down its roster than the Isles. Captains, ex-captains, alternates, ex-alternates…

I was not on the Roy-bashing train, even up to the Olympic break, but since we acquired Palat and Schenn it’s become clear to me that the most reasonable explanation for this team’s huge issues is the coach. And I haven’t even mentioned our issues with defense and powerplay! Roy took a team who, FOR YEARS, was renowned for its solid defensive structure and turned it into a team (with largely the same roster, other than a generationally talented dman 🤯) that is unable to play even rudimentary defense. Furthermore, in spite of hiring new special teams coaches AND improving the forward roster relative to recent years, our PP has become more of a threat to ourselves than it is to our opponents.

If we miss the playoffs, I sincerely hope this is the end of Roy’s tenure behind the bench.
