CONSPIRACY: Why The Washington Nationals REALLY Optioned Dylan Crews
Washington Nationals shake up their outfield, sending former No. 2 overall pick Dylan Crews to the minors and spotlighting Jacob Young’s elite defense. Could Young earn an everyday role, or are the Nationals positioning him for a future trade? Ryan Clary explores whether the franchise is prioritizing small ball and defensive intensity under a new analytics-driven regime, highlighting James Wood’s power potential and dissecting Christian Franklin’s demotion. Key discussion points include Josiah Gray’s brutal 60-day IL setback with a right flexor strain, crucial bullpen upgrades featuring Cionel Perez and Ken Waldichuk, and roster maneuvers impacting Opening Day. Clary emphasizes the Nationals’ unexpectedly strong pitching staff, their offense’s early struggles, and an intense schedule with the Cubs, Phillies, and Dodgers. Insightful speculation on how key players will adapt to new strategies makes this episode a must-listen for fans eager to track Washington’s path in the 2026 MLB season.

Great points! I do worry about Crews’ confidence going forward.
Getting Young to a .380 OBP would be a miracle
Nothing about being a fan of this team is enjoyable
Showcase for Jacob Young? Perhaps last chance to prove he is an everyday player. Unless he has figured something out, expect more of the same, 4rth outfielder
Base on what I’m hearing about Crews ( uncoachable per AJ Pierzinsky, PO’d because of his demotion per Lurch, not interested in being fed data per Crews himself) plus the fact that Crews is represented by Boras, I’d rather keep JY over Crews. Hell, I’d rather have Bobby Barrels over Crews. I agree, if JY is able to get an OPS of .700+ his WAR would be about 3.0.
How can there be sensory overload they are all Yhoots they don’t even know what paper is ,they are suppose to be able to process this garbage
In triple A we have
Parker, Alvarez, Cornelio, and Parales in the SP rotation.
In the pen we have
Rutledge, Ribalta, Yean,
At the OF we have Crews, Franklin, RH3, Pickney, even Glasser
I hope the one year flips like Weimer in OF, the 3 SP’s and bullpen guys don’t get a leash longer than 3-6 weeks as long as one of the guys in the minors names is playing reasonably well. Last year with the exception of Bell the rope given was way to much. With all those down in the minors, it shouldn’t be longer than mid-May. Also, if they can’t be traded at the deadline, than I hope they are DFA’D afterwords. Why was Paul Dejong on the team after the deadline.
I think it's about time that Nats fans realize that Crews may be a bust. I don't say this with any malice, but he hasn't hit at an acceptable level at any stage of his development. He looks totally overmatched at the MLB level and has regressed from last season. He needs to accept the demotion and work harder than he ever has to return to the majors as at least a reasonably competent hitter capable to be a fourth outfielder.
How does Bobby Barrels compare in defense and speed to JY? I ask this because I don’t know. What I do know is that if the defense and speed are largely comparable, Bobby is superior to JY. Bobby can hit and has more power, and will get on base more consistently. So, in all honesty, how do they compare defensively and in speed?
We're not doing sh*t the rest of this decade!
