Hey guys I suspect I’ll get disliked out the wazoo but here goes. Do we really think a lineup of Key, Ace, Lauri, JJJ, Kessler works well in the NBA? I love the length and defense and all that but you don’t see many winning teams with only one real ball handler surrounded by off ball shooters.

We’ve already seen this year that Lauri is 10x the player when he has Keyonte and JJJ is the same. This teams needs more on ball shot creation and passing, and I know this isn’t the squad we’ll take into contention, but my real concerns lie with people who see Ace as a starting 2 with our current lineup.

I’m intrigued by Ace’s handle development early, but I don’t feel good about him getting anywhere near where he’d need to be by next season to be our secondary ball handler, so I have to assume our plan would be to trade/draft/sign a SG to start next to Key.

None of this matters because we WILL get Mr Peterson and there WILL be a parade in my city!!!

  1. I figure it all depends on his defense, oddly enough. Lauri and Key are enough firepower to carry us in lots of games, what that lineup is missing is perimeter defense. If Ace can cover that decently it may be him.

Otherwise he rotates with our forwards, and is a very good option off the bench.

  2. I still think we need a defender at the 2, to cover for George and Markkanen’s poor defensive skills. I would go with Harkless at the 2, a defender, secondary ball carrier, who can shoot and drive. Also means we have more shots for Markkanen, George and JJJ in the starting group, and Bailey can become our primary bench scorer, and even get more shots and opportunities as a consequence. We are going to have a lot of hungry shooters next year.

  3. I think he’s our best shot at perimeter defense, so yeah, I think that’ll be the starting line-up

  4. Yes, I like that lineup and think it will win a lot of games.

Playoff success will likely require development from Ace, but I don’t think we were likely to be competing for the championship next year no matter who the 2 guard is without more development from Ace.

Having multiple guys who can create for others is a little overrated anyway (not a lot, but a little). You absolutely need more than 1 person who can create for themselves, but Lauri, JJJ and Ace can all do that a bit already.

  5. Could you imagine? That would be a fun lineup.
Key, Ace, Lauri, JJJ, and Kessler 🥰

  6. Ace has been playing good defense lately so honestly he could develop the dribble better but he is ascending and can play the wing’s positions pretty good DP would also be a cool pick up

  7. That is 100% going to be our starting lineup to start next season. I think ball handling and playmaking will be the biggest flaw with that group, but in a loaded West we have to try that huge lineup to differentiate ourselves.

Collier lacks the defense and shooting to start alongside Keyonte and Kessler. We can improve this issue in two ways: draft Peterson in the top 4, or pick a guard in the 5–8 range (Flemings or Acuff).
